REQUEST FOR INFORMATION OR ASSISTANCE

Route Gatherer Survey: Blind Navigation Research Project Seeking Participants. The Computer Science Assistive Technology Laboratory, in association with Utah Center for Persons with Disabilities (UCEDD), is seeking volunteers who are visually impaired to participate in an on-line survey known Route Gatherer. The purpose of this survey is to collect a sample of route descriptions that a traveler who is visually impaired would give to another traveler with a similar impairment and similar levels of navigation ability and should take 10 to 15 minutes.

Request for Comments: Proposed changes to the “Quick Disability Determination (QDD) Process” (SSA published its original document on 3/31/06). Comment deadline: 8/9/07. Based on authorization contained in the Social Security Act, SSA is hoping to improve the disability claims process by expanding from the Boston region to all states QDD. QDD identifies persons who have a “high degree of probability” of being disabled, by identifying certain data elements in the electronic claims file that point to a person having a “high potential” for disability. SSA is also proposing to remove from the process: 1) the requirement that each state disability determination service maintain a QDD unit, and 2) the requirement that each case be adjudicated within 20 days. Review the 3/31/06 document.

Request for Comments: Proposed FY 2008 Fair Market Rents (FMRs) for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) and the Moderate Rehabilitation Single Room Occupancy program. Comment deadline: 8/13/07. FMRs determine the eligibility of rental housing units for the Section 8 program that helps low-income families obtain safe and affordable housing. The proposed FMRs for FY 2008 are based on 2000 census data and updated current survey data. The Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) is looking for comments on FMR levels for specific areas.
