Amy Sharp, PhD

Amy Sharp, Ph.D. is the Associate Director of the Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University, a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities founded in 2005. In this role she oversees a range of community outreach/support efforts, technical assistance, and pubic policy education that lead to increased quality of life for individuals with disabilities.  

With experience in the public schools as a teacher, a diagnostician and an advocate, Dr. Sharp uses a multidisciplinary perspective to promote understanding and collaboration among professionals, families and self advocates. Community support/outreach, special education, quality of life, and long term recovery from disasters are areas of current and past research.

Dr. Sharp serves on the Texas State Education committee focused on providing consistent information to families across the state. Dr. Sharp also serves as a council member of the Texas Council on Developmental Disabilities and is a Board member the state Protection and Advocacy agency. Dr. Sharp is the current Chair of the Association University Centers National Community Education Directors Council.
