Community-Based Services & Supports
AUCD advocates for policies aimed at eliminating the institutional bias in Medicaid and providing more community- and family-based services and supports to individuals with disabilities so that they may live as independently and productively as possible in their home communities.
AUCD supports the following policies and proposals to improve community-based services and supports:
- Community First Choice Option (CFC, based on the Community Choice Act) and the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports (CLASS) Act, passed as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in March 2010. For more information, see AUCD's Health Reform Hub and Summary of Long-Term Services and Supports provisions.
- Direct Support Professionals Fairness and Security Act of 2009 (H.R. 868), introduced during the last Congress but never passed. This bill needs to be reintroduced in the 112th Congress.
