SUMMARY: The Vice President of Education Services serves as an integral member of the organization's senior management team at VSA, the international organization on arts and disability. VSA is an affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This position is charged with leadership of organizational efforts to develop a strategic focus for educational programs, both domestically and internationally, development of effective learning tools and in-service and pre-service professional development initiatives, and documentation of effective outcomes and accomplishments through sound evaluative practices and methodologies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Critical features of this job are described below. They may be subject to change at any time.

  • Develop and execute annual and long-term strategies for effective inclusive K-12 programming and pre- and in-service professional development for educators and administrators in general education, special education, and arts-in-education and advance VSA research and evaluation efforts.
  • Maintain effective partnerships and align departmental strategies and practices with national organizations the arts, education, and disability fields. Represent organization at state, national, and international events and conferences, when appropriate, and in coordination with the office of the President.
  • Participate in the development and review of organizational publications and communication strategies to ensure the consistent incorporation of information relating to VSA educational programs, resources, professional development initiatives, and outcomes at the state and national level.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, oversee the proper expenditure and documentation of all departmental funding. Monitor project costs, and determine adjustments in cooperation with the Chief Financial Officer and President.
  • Support the office of the President in diversification of funding sources, including the development of programming concepts and proposals.
  • Facilitate effective cross-departmental dialogue to maintain organization-wide awareness of educational services contributions to the achievement of achieve organizational goals and objectives.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Mentor and motivate departmental staff to perform to their highest capacity. Promote staff professional development to meet departmental, organizational, and personal goals. Monitor and evaluate staff performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10-15 years of effective teaching and administrative or arts management experience. Minimum of Masters Degree in special education or related field required.
  • Non-profit management experience, knowledge of the arts, and demonstrated knowledge of education policies and standards are all definite pluses.
  • Effective creative thinking, problem solving, and written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Strong interpersonal, staff and project management skills, as well as competency in strategic planning and implementation are also required.
  • Good sense of humor is always a plus.
