Position:     Fellowship in Clinical Research of Health Promotion in Adults with Autism

Description:
The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (VKC) for Research on Human Development is accepting applications for a fellowship in the area of autism and related developmental disabilities in Adults. The mission of the VKC is to facilitate discoveries and best practices that make positive differences in the lives of persons with developmental disabilities and their families. The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center provides an exceptional research and training environment, reflecting synergy across our NICHD-supported Intellectual and Developmental Disability Research Center (IDDRC) and various departments across the University and Medical School, including, but not limited to, Neurology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Special Education, Psychology, Hearing and Speech Sciences, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

The 2-year fellowship is supported by funding from the Vanderbilt Trans-Institutional Program (TIPs) initiative. The fellow will make clinical and research contributions to an innovative, interdisciplinary collaboration of Vanderbilt faculty to assess, understand, and optimize health and well-being for adults with ASD. This trans-institutional program (TIP) weaves together the strengths of core faculty in three Vanderbilt schools and colleges (Medicine, Peabody, Arts and Sciences) and will serve as a springboard for a new autism research and educational program focused on health and well-being in adults with ASD, a population currently underserved.

The fellow will help coordinate this two year project, which will develop and evaluate an immersion program for adults with ASD to promote health, well-being and improved sleep through behavioral activation and skill building using a variety of modalities such as theater, community engagement, exploration of vocational and educational opportunities, interactions with Vanderbilt students, mindfulness training and yoga. The fellow will receive mentorship in both the research and clinical aspects of autism research by PI, Beth Malow, M.D. http://vkc.mc.vanderbilt.edu/people/malow-beth

This postdoctoral clinical fellowship is a two-year, full time, paid position with fringe benefits, commencing September 2016. Salary is generally commensurate with NRSA postdoctoral stipend levels. Previous experience in working with persons with ASD and/or I/DD is highly preferred. The applicant must be enrolled or have completed a graduate program in a related field and be seeking additional training in clinical research.  We are looking for an applicant whom is enthusiastic, hardworking, comfortable engaging with persons with I/DD and their families in person and on the phone, and has excellent communication skills.
