The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) is a disability and health leader, with the creation of Public Health is for Everyone (www.phetoolkit.org), facilitation of the Learn the Signs. Act Early. (LTSAE) Network, and a national network of centers in every state and territory, including: University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs), Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Programs, and Intellectual and Developmental Disability Research Centers (IDDRC). AUCD's public health programs aim to strengthen capacity and health promotion for people living with a disability. Other activities involve creation of accessible health education information, support of coalitions, and training opportunities funded through a combination of foundation and grants.

The Program Specialist will assist with work plans by coordinating of a range of project activities including meetings, webinars, materials development, technical assistance, and communication support.

The Program Specialist position is part-time, located in Silver Spring, MD, and will work under the supervision of the Senior Director of Public Health and Leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • Good organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks in orderly, accountable and professional manner.
  • Proficiency in the use of the Internet for information exchange purposes, as well as in word processing, web posting, and spreadsheet software.
  • Experience and facility with written and verbal communications.
  • Aptitude in working with individuals with diverse abilities and from different cultures.
  • Committed to promoting full participation and cultural competence of service systems.
  • Interest in disability and health, health disparities, and the public health role in reaching underserved populations.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in carrying out duties of AUCD's new effort, Nutrition is for Everyone.
  • Assist in developing dissemination materials, project reports, and publications in collaboration with Nutrition is for Everyone Ambassadors, AUCD network centers, and partner organizations.
  • Maintain effective communication with state pilot site program partners.
  • Respond to requests for information from funders, AUCD network centers and programs, individuals with disabilities, community support/advocacy organizations, and partner organizations, providing referral to AUCD network centers and other resources as appropriate.
  • Provide support and information on a wide range of network activities that further the mission and goals of members of the AUCD network.

Required qualifications include:

  • Completion of a Bachelor Degree in the social or health sciences (e.g., public health, public policy, psychology, social work, education, allied health) with 1-3 years of experience in human services.
  • Or Completion of a graduate program (MPH, MS, MSW, MA, etc.) in the social or health sciences (e.g., public health, public policy, psychology, social work, education, allied health)

Desired qualifications include: 

  • Experience working with funders at federal or state levels
  • Administrative support experience in a UCEDD, LEND or similar organization
  • Experience with social media and communication support efforts
