Title of Position:      Public Awareness & Outreach Liaison
Reports to:               President of SABE and SABE Board
Classification:         Independent Contractor, 20 hours per month for 6 months
Location:                 Washington DC

Public Awareness & Outreach Liaison's job is to provide support to Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE) to provide a face in Washington, DC. Public Awareness & Outreach Liaison will be an integral part of the policymaking community, work in partnership and network with other organizations in leadership, keep SABE in touch with events and activities, volunteering opportunities, support SABE priorities on national initiatives and strategic plans.

Main Responsibilities

• To promote the mission and values of SABE
• To support SABE's Board meetings
• To Provide presentations
• To visit policymakers on a regular basis

Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years' experience working within the disability community
• Experience in a leadership role of a self-advocacy organization at the local, state and/or national level
• Prefer participation and completion of training programs in self-advocacy, leadership and legislative
  and policy making
• Lived experience of a person with a developmental disability

Knowledge & Skill Specifications

• Strong understanding of the self-advocacy movement
• Solid experience in SABE's values, beliefs, and commitments
• Demonstrates involvement in the self-advocacy movement
• Good organizational skills
• Strong communication skills including knowledge and the use of e-mail, Microsoft Word, texting, use of smart phone
  and tablet technology
• Creative thinker who is positive, proactive, and embraces change
• Strong problem-solver
• Able to work as a team member
• Able to complete work in a timely manner

Payment
You will be an independent contractor. We will pay you $25.00 hour for an average of 20 hours per month for six months. Hopefully this will be extended.

This is all inclusive. You must pay for all of your travel and other associated expenses necessary to performing the functions of this contract. The only exception to this is SABE will pay travel expenses to Board Meeting or other conferences that we may request that you attend.
