 JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Behavioral Specialist works under the direct supervision and tutelage of the Lead Behavioral Specialist and Behavioral Specialist to provide technical consultation, assessment, monitoring, and training for the identified teams working with individual clients in the development, implementation, and monitoring of behavioral support programming and in the conducting of formal Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavioral Support Needs Assessments of assigned individuals.  The Assistant Behavioral Specialist ensures the team and the family develops and implements appropriate individualized behavior strategies that may include Emergency Response Plans, Interaction Guidelines, Behavioral Support Plans, or other formal behavioral strategies for each individual.  The Assistant Behavioral Specialist provides ongoing training for the team and family members and works with each individual on an as needed basis. 

 JOB DUTIES

  1. Collaborates with the Behavioral Supports Team, family and team members, in developing and implementing any needed behavioral supports starting with the least restrictive intervention and moving to the most restrictive intervention as needed. Development of plans and strategies will be done with the Behavioral Specialist and signed off on by the Behavioral Specialist.
  2. Assists Behavioral Specialist in the conducting of formal Functional Behavior Assessments or Behavioral Supports Needs Assessment.
  3. Assists in analysis and development of specific written interventions for individuals with direct collaboration, training and mentoring from Behavioral Specialists.
  4. Reviews staff data on a regular basis, monitors program implementation and makes revisions to interventions and programs as necessary.
  5. Monitors and records individual's behavioral, progress and interventions; provides ongoing training and feedback to staff.
  6. Accepts responsibility for tasks not otherwise specified, but which are in the best interest of individuals served or the agency.


QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) or related field
  • Certified or willing to become BCaBA certified within two years of starting position
  • Two (2) years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Willing to become fluent with philosophy, skills and implementation of Positive Behavior Supports under direct tutelage and supervision of the Behavior Support Team

OTHER

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, or 1/3 of body weight, whichever is less, from a squat-and-kneel position
  • Possess a valid driver license & at least 3 years of driving experience (may include permit time)
  • Provide driving record that meets agency guidelines
  • Pass a criminal background check under state regulation
