Developmental Disabilities Receives Special Olympics Healthy Communities Partner of Excellence Award (NY UCEDD)

Special Olympics summer games opened at State University of New York at Brockport on Friday, June 5, 2015. Over two thousand athletes from across NYS were represented. During the event, Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities, the UCEDD at the University of Rochester, was a recipient of the Special Olympics Healthy Communities Partner of Excellence Award.

Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's (TN UCEDD, IDDRC, LEND) TRIAD Program Announces Grant and New Leadership

The Vanderbilt Kennedy Center's (TN UCEDD, IDDRC, LEND) Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) has been awarded a five-year, $10 million training grant from the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) to continue a 16-year partnership providing education and training opportunities for school personnel throughout the state.

Wayne State University's Elizabeth Janks was Prepared for Just About Anything as she traveled to Tel Aviv, Israel to Present on Emergency Preparedness Planning at the 6th International Conference on Disabilities (MI UCEDD)

Every four years Beit Issie Shapiro hosts an International Conference on Disabilities that brings together a wide range of professionals to learn and collaborate on the various research methods and practices going on in the field of disabilities around the world. Included in the list of presenters for this years' international conference in Tel Aviv, is Elizabeth Janks, LMSW from the Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Janks' presentation focuses on Emergency Planning for people with disabilities and their support systems.

AUCD is Seeking a Director of Finance and Grant Administration

AUCD is currently seeking a Director of Finance and Grant Administration to oversee all financial aspects of the Association and is responsible for the flow of financial information to the Executive Director, Board of Directors and, where necessary, external parties such as grantors, investors or financial institutions. This position will provide direction and leadership on a wide range of finance and grant/contract management activities in support of the Association and network's strategic priorities and mission. The office is located in downtown Silver Spring, MD, one block from the red line Silver Spring Metro station.

MCDD High School Trainee Selected for the Distinguished Theresian Scholars Program(MD UCEDD)

The Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities at Kennedy Krieger Institute hosted Sarah Aviles, a rising senior from the Institute of Notre Dame (IND) of Maryland, as a high school trainee. During her freshman year, IND selected Sarah to be a candidate for the distinguished Theresian Scholars program due to her outstanding academic and personal achievement.

Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN UCEDD, IDDRC, LEND) Summer Programs Allow for Fun and Discovery

Summer programming at the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN UCEDD, IDDRC, LEND) presents unique opportunities for investigators to design innovative research, for students and professionals to engage in model trainings, and for children and adults with disabilities to learn new skills and to make new friends. This year, the three summer programs drew 63 campers and students and 23 counselors and peers to the Vanderbilt campus.

HHS, ED, and Too Small to Fail Release the Talk, Read, Sing Together Every day! Toolkit

The U.S. Departments of Health and Human Services and Education, in partnership with Too Small to Fail, are providing these critical resources to families, caregivers, and early learning providers. Last week, we proudly released "Talk, Read, Sing Together Every Day", a free suite of resources that can help enrich children's early language experiences by providing tips for talking, reading, and singing with young children every day beginning from birth and extending into the early years.

Prevalence of Disability and Disability Type Among Adults - United States, 2013

New Report from CDC-NCBDDD

NCBDDD's new report describes the percentage of adults living with disabilities in each state and select functional disability types, and presents estimates of disability by select demographic groups. Health officials and other stakeholders invested in the health and well-being of people with disabilities can use this information to better understand and address the needs of this population in the United States.

AUCD Welcomes Alysa Vos (LoneStar LEND) as the 2015-16 Virtual Trainee

Alysa Vos is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and director of an organization that serves individuals with neurodevelopmental differences in Houston, TX. Alysa became a LoneStar LEND trainee in 2014 where she has worked towards building and sustaining interdisciplinary communication and collaboration and advocacy for persons with neurodevelopmental differences and special healthcare needs. As the Virtual Trainee, Alysa seeks to continue to strengthen the community of trainees within the network, and facilitate the engagement of trainees through information sharing, networking, social media, and other platforms.
