"Literacy by Design: A Universal Design for Learning Approach for Students With Significant Intellectual Disabilities," co-authored by Peggy Coyne, Bart Pisha, Bridget Dalton, Lucille Zeph and Nancy Cook Smith, has been selected for the Editor's Choice Collection as one of Remedial and Special Education's most noteworthy manuscripts (May/June 2012 Vol. 33 No. 3 162-172).

The study, originally published online in August 2010, was an outcome of a three year classroom-based research project, Literacy By Design (LBD), conducted by CAST (Bridget Dalton, Ed.D., Co-Principal Investigator) in partnership with the University of Maine Center for Community Inclusion and Disability Studies (Lucille Zeph, Ed.D., Co-Principal Investigator), that examined the effect of a technology-based universal design for learning (UDL) approach to literacy instruction. The project was funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (Grant Number: H324D020059). A full-text PDF version of the study is available for download here.
