CURRENT AND RECENT POSITIONS

 

Director, Kentucky Partnership for Early Childhood Services/Human Development Institute, University of Kentucky, 2016 - Present

 

President, Alderson-Broaddus College, Philippi, WV, 2008-2011.

Chief executive officer elected unanimously by the presidential search committee and the board of trustees.

 

  • Served on state and local councils and committees, including Barbour County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Barbour County Planning Authority, West Virginia Region VII Planning Council, West Virginia Independent Colleges and Universities Board of Directors, President of the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce, Executive Committee and the Leadership Committee of the West Virginia Convention of the American Baptist Church, West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Association Board.

  • Strengthened college-constituent relations, particularly with affiliated churches, alumni, local school systems, local governments, donors, and corporate supporters.

  • Developed a network of donors who contributed $100,000+ for scholarships and capital projects.

  • Launched a $15 million capital campaign for building renovation and academic program renewal.

  • Facilitated the establishment of a new music education center.

  • Guided the development of a campus master plan with prioritized capital improvements.

  • Led the funding, renovation and restoration of residence halls, administration building, and the student union.

  • Facilitated the successful reaffirmation of North Central Association (regional) accreditation.

  • Re-established the physician assistant professional accreditation with good standing.

  • Developed a new system for tracking and improving funds related to donated mineral rights.

  • Established new networks for fund-raising and enrollment in West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C.

  • Served on local and national United Methodist councils, boards and committees, including higher education and ministry, college and church relations, and taskforce on church and institutional support.

  • Facilitated $20 million capital campaign with funding for capital projects, annual fund, endowment and scholarships.

  • Expanded the College’s donor base and trustee recruitment.

  • Worked with funding agencies and grants and contracts to improve campus resources.

  • Guided the campaign for historic campus building restoration and renewal.

  • Strengthened campus programming, student retention, and improved the quality of residential life.

  • Organized enrollment and admission functions to attract highly qualified students.

     

     

    Dean, Carter and Moyers School of Education, Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, TN, 2011 – 2016.

  • Executive leadership of the School of Education Unit, including the premier        J. Frank White college preparatory academy, undergraduate education programs, and graduate education programs.

  • Successful accreditation of counseling and guidance programs by CACREP in 2012.

  • Successful accreditation of undergraduate and graduate education programs by NCATE/CAEP in 2012.

  • Restructured and reorganized the School of Education to include new roles and functions for school partnerships, clinical placement, candidate recruitment, and program assessment.

  • Established new community college and HBCU programming partnerships.

  • Supported the development of a school district collaborative for the improvement of instruction and student learning in northeast Tennessee.

  • Guided the formation of new interstate partnerships and advisory councils, involving the state departments of education within the southeastern region of the United States (GA, TN, KY, VA, NC, SC, AL) for the expansion of enrollment and the improvement of teacher preparation programs.

  • Facilitated program development and overall 30 percent enrollment growth in the School of Education.

    Created new academic-student development relationships which improved the quality of campus life and led to a 30 percent increase in residential enrollment.

    Institution received unqualified positive reaffirmation of North Central accreditation in 1998.

    The social work program received full accreditation (CSWE) renewal (eight years) in 1999.

    The teacher education program received full accreditation (NCATE) at the undergraduate and graduate levels (five years) in 1999.

    Facilitated successful regional and professional accreditation reviews for undergraduate nursing, graduate nursing, education, medical school, athletic training, social work, veterinary technology, nurse practitioner, nurse anesthesiologist, and extended site programs.

    Chair, City of LaVergne Board of Zoning Appeals, LaVergne TN.

    Implemented new community planning protocols and applied state-approved building codes in a consistent manner.

     

     

    Council of Independent Colleges, New College Presidents Institute.

     

     

    Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 31 Listed Family and Civil Mediator,

    State of Tennessee.

    Provide court-appointed mediation services for families in crisis.

    Assist civil courts and chancellors with increasing case loads.

     

    NCATE Site Visitor Training and Appointment, Washington, D.C.

    Reviewed education units in New York, Virginia, North Carolina and Indiana.

     

    State of Tennessee Licensed Home Inspector, Nashville, TN.

    Familiar with commercial and residential building codes and processes.

     

    Councilman, Town of Cumberland Gap, Cumberland Gap, TN.

    Facilitated improved town-gown relationships and supported the establishment of a gallery and convention center in the town. Guided the improvement of the town’s legal code and its utility systems.
