COVID-19: How UCEDDS and LEND programs can partner with state and local special education systems during this, and future pandemics

John Eisenberg, Executive Director of The National Association of State Directors of Special Education will highlight what is currently happening across the country to support students with disabilities in schools, and he will discuss recommendations on how UCEDD and LEND Programs can be instrumental in helping state and local systems deal with the many obstacles faced by service providers. He will also provide some tips and strategies that participants can use immediately and in the future.

This conversation will begin with a discussion of potential ideas and strategies to help individuals connect during this time. Calling All Minority-Serving Research Centers within the AUCD Network!

The Langston University Rehabilitation Research and Training Center will use the study findings to highlight the visibility of high-quality research created through MSI-based research centers. The LU-RRTC will also use study findings to make recommendations to policymakers, NIDILRR, and other federal research funding agencies, and other stakeholders on how to address identified challenges.

Families: What They are Saying, and how UCEDDs and LENDs can help

Families are facing many challenges during this Covid-19 Public Health Crisis. If a family has a child with a disability, these challenges are magnified. This webinar will share information collected from surveys of families with children with disabilities from around the country as they cope with Covid 19. A panel of family leaders will then discuss what UCEDDS and LENDs can do to help families and their children now, and in the near future.

Innovations and Best Practices in Medicaid Managed Long-Term Services and Supports: An Opportunity for the AUCD Network

Based on a 2019 AUCD policy brief written by Sarah Swanson of the Munroe-Meyer Institute and the accompanying paper, Stakeholder Guide to Understand and Have Involvement in MLTSS, the Webinar is designed to network members and individuals with disabilities and their families understand this sometimes complex topic so they can be engaged in this policy change. The Webinar will look at some specific examples of new programs, trends and innovations arising since the paper was completed.

Admin Essentials: Managing Staff and Volunteers with Guardians

This installment of the Admin Essentials Series will focus on the topic of hiring and managing staff and volunteers who are under guardianship. We will discuss practices, policies, and resources about employment of people under guardianship. We will be joined by Cathy Costanzo and Anna Krieger from the Center for Public Representation, who will speak on the basics of guardianship nationally, how it applies to the employment of people with disabilities, and where to look in your state for more information.

Williams will model and contextualize each section and its modules suited for the current educational landscape. This toolkit contains a series of concepts and exercises designed to help early-stage UCEDD directors begin well in their roles.
