Increasing Engagement with Underserved Communities: AUCD partners with Morehouse School of Medicine National COVID-19 Resiliency Network (MSM NCRN)

The Morehouse School of Medicine National COVID-19 Resiliency Network (MSM NCRN) coordinates a strategic and structured national network of local, state/territorial/tribal, national, and community-based organizations that will mitigate impact of COVID-19 on racial and ethnic minority, and rural populations. This project is supported by a $40 million award from the U.S. Department of Human and Health Services Office of Minority Health as part of the National Infrastructure for Mitigating the Impact of COVID-19 within Racial and Ethnic Minority Communities (NIMIC). The MSM NCRN is in partnership with community-based organizations, corporate companies, academic institutions, healthcare centers, hospital systems, faith-based organizations, and federal agencies.

AIR-P and ARRB Present: Conducting Quality Participatory Autism Research

In this webinar, the AIR-P Autistic Researcher Review Board (ARRB) will discuss how autism researchers can respect and include the autistic community in their work from participants to co-researchers. ARRB researchers will discuss autistic experiences with participatory research approaches that include diverse autistic people from across the autism spectrum as members of research teams. Furthermore, ARRB researchers will present concrete recommendations about how participatory research practices can be implemented. Considerations around appropriate and respectful autism terminology will be addressed.

Learning to Face Fears from Home: Unexpected Benefits and Discoveries

The purpose of this webinar will be to describe an evidence-based, manualized group cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) program for youth with ASD and anxiety, called Facing Your Fears (FYF). Following a brief description of FYF, we will discuss specific ways that FYF has been adapted for virtual delivery, including successes and challenges. Presenters include clinicians who co-facilitate the FYF virtual groups, as well as parent of a teen with ASD and anxiety who participated in the FYF groups.

Caregiver Coaching through Telehealth: Benefits, Challenges, and Opportunities

We will provide a discussion of caregiver coaching strategies over telehealth using two different Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBIs) and consider options for multiple formats (synchronous and asynchronous). Benefits and challenges to using telehealth technology for caregiver coaching will be explored. A parent of a young child with autism who participated in coaching, both in-person and through telehealth, will share her experiences.

Fabric not Fringe Webinar Series

The LEND Family Discipline Network (LFDN), in partnership with the Interdisciplinary Technical Assistance Center on Autism and Developmental Disabilities (ITAC), is sponsoring a four-part webinar series during the month of May. Topics are based on the LFDN's 2019 white paper, "Fabric not Fringe: Weaving Family Involvement throughout Training and Practice for Professionals and Advocates Working with Individuals with Disabilities and Special Health Care Needs." This white paper approaches family involvement from the perspective of the family discipline itself, and the ongoing paradigm shift in family-centered care--from fringe to fabric.
