Webinar Description:

This webinar will address the requirements for UCEDDs to develop core function plans. This is the ninth and final installment of a multi-part series titled "Coffee and TA," addressing the UCEDD core functions as categorized in NIRS. This webinar features two UCEDDs (Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities at the University of Rochester & North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities at Minot State University) highlighting innovative approaches to how their UCEDD created plans for carrying out the UCEDD core functions.

Learning Objectives: 

As a result of participating in this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Articulate their responsibilities related to developing 5-year core functions plans as articulated in the DD Act and OIDD guidance.
  • Describe innovative methods to increase UCEDD-community partnerships by clearly and succinctly outlining UCEDD core functions.
  • Apply the lessons learned from the development and formation of 5-year plans of peers in the UCEDD network to their own center's efforts.

Headshot of Debra VigilSuzannah Iadarola is a psychologist and Associate Professor of Pediatrics who specializes in evaluation and intervention for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). She is also the Director of the Strong Center for Developmental Disabilities, the UCEDD in Rochester, New York. With her colleagues, she conducts community-partnered research related to developing, disseminating, and evaluating behavioral interventions to support individuals with ASD and their families. Her research also involves assessment of parent needs and barriers to self-care, as well as the development of programs to help address parent stress and well-being..

Dr. Brent Askvig is the Executive Director of the ND Center for Persons with Disabilities and a Professor of Special Education at Minot State University in North Dakota. He has been involved in every one of the Core grant applications for NDCPD since 1990. Askvig is a former special education school teacher, a direct support professional for persons with intellectual disabilities, and an early intervention service provider.
