This session will present an overview of three distinct social skills interventions targeting adolescents and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other social impairments. Grounded in developmental theory and evidence-based practices, this lively and interactive session will provide useful tools and strategies for improving social functioning in youth with special needs.

This session will be presented virtually by the authors. We detail an innovative contemporary interdisciplinary collaboration between engineering and disability studies that uses robotic assistive devices to "heal disjuncture". Disjuncture defines disability as the interactive ill-fit of atypical bodies and environments. This theoretical lens provides guidance for interdisciplinary solutions to improve full participation.

This presentation discusses the use of interactive video to teach employment staff to analyze workplace cultures and facilitate natural supports in the workplace. The use of both live and animation vignettes for online staff training will be demonstrated. Plans for evaluating outcomes and distributing completed training modules will be discussed.

People with disabilities experience high rates of interpersonal violence. Examples of assistive communication in the court room, safety planning for women with cognitive disabilities, and community collaboration will be discussed, along with data on the types of abuse experienced by women with cognitive disabilities.
