The goal of the Diversity Fellowship at the North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities is to increase the disability workforce and service impact in the Native American population, specifically the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians. This poster will describe project goals, objectives, lessons learned, and the fellow's capstone project. Templates and tools utilized during the fellowship will be disseminated to poster attendees via flash drives.

Patient-Centered Communication for a People-First Mindset: Adapting Trainings for Healthcare Contexts

First, to individuals with disabilities in healthcare contexts, and second, to pre-med students who will work with individuals with disabilities. Two tenets of patient-centered communication, information exchange and enabling patient self-management, are the primary focus of adapting the university-level trainings for these individuals.

Aiming to better understand the needs of racially and linguistically diverse families, the Virginia UCEDD's Diversity Fellow embarked on a study of the cultural brokering model currently used by their Center for Family Involvement. This presentation provides an overview of research methodology, findings, and recommendations for model improvement and implications for the UCEDDs journey in cultural collaboration.
EmpowerMENTORS: A Culturally Competent Approach to Evidence-Based Mentoring in Inclusive Post-Secondary Education Programs

The EmpowerMENTORS curriculum trains peer mentors to become culturally responsive "EmpowerMENTORS" to students with intellectual disabilities in Inclusive Postsecondary Education programs. EmpowerMENTORS are trained mentors who engage in culturally competent and supportive relationships with students in IPSE programs to promote positive, evidence-based, social, emotional, and intellectual development. EmpowerMENTORS practice holistic mentoring through a self-determinism framework across four domains: Academic Success, Campus and Community Engagement, Career Development, and Independent Living.

Despite the solid evidence for IECMHC in formal, center-based child care settings, little is known about the potential benefits of IECMHC for providers and children in Family, Friend and Neighbor (FFN) child care arrangements. There are notable distinct features of FFN child care arrangements and the profiles of FFN providers themselves that provide a compelling case for why IEMCHC would be beneficial for children.

Language skills are essential for reading comprehension and success in school. Children who do not possess adequate English verbal skills are not ready for English instruction in schools. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of a Spanish-English curriculum on preschool Dual Language Learners' (DLLs) English language.

The University of Connecticut Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities A.J. Pappanikou Center will share a review of information on acquired and traumatic brain injuries and its impact, also highlighting that factors that influence an individual's social identity.

Cultural Competence is by nature and definition complex. After a year-long process of examining the historical and current literature, we developed an online cultural competence curriculum for healthcare professionals. To enhance our curriculum, the second year of the diversity fellowship was spent in the field. To really understand the full complexity of cultural competence, we diverged from the research to examine what students were learning in their everyday practice.

The Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University has collaborated with community agencies and school districts to provide free monthly trainings to individuals with disabilities and their families within the Brazos Valley. The purpose is to establish a meaningful dialogue between participants and presenters to facilitate self-advocacy, capacity building, and systems change in the community. This poster will outline program components for replication and future steps.

This poster will describe the Equity Diversity Fellow's experience helping minority consumers and their parents to have a strong voice in the reform of California's Regional Centers to address racial, ethnic, and linguistic disparities in authorization, expenditures, and utilization of RC services. California has entitlement legislation and a 4.5 billion dollar budget to provide services to individuals who meet CA's definition of DD through 21 regional centers.

Identifying as an Autistic Person of Color

The purpose of the survey was to explore how communities of color throughout the world see autistic people of color, the barriers and stigmas that they face in their communities, and suggestions on how to find or create safe spaces for autistic people of color.
