The symposium will be a four-part training. The first part will discuss transition as the integration of disciplines, agencies and perspectives. Short videotapes of self-advocates and families will describe expectations and obstacles. Panelists will offer different perspectives on transition and will highlight important considerations and effective strategies. Transition will be discussed from the perspective of health, education, employment, post-secondary education and community living. The second part will present strategies for facilitating interdisciplinary, interagency collaboration. The third part will be a guided exercise during which participants will apply core strategies to the issues raised by the self-advocate and family videos. The fourth part will highlight some of the resources available in the AUCD network.

Individual differences in emotional reactivity and emotion regulation account for substantial variation in developmental outcomes. Recent initiatives that are focused on training mindfulness and kindness in children and adolescents will be described and early evidence on the impact of such training on behavior and brain function will be presented. The presentation will underscore the need for a serious national research effort that is focused on cultivating social and emotional skills in children to foster the development of healthy minds.

Hearing loss can affect a child's ability to develop communication, language, and social skills. The earlier children with hearing loss receive services, the more likely they are to reach their full potential.
Since 2009, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) has provided funding and support to LEND programs to provide interdisciplinary training to enhance the clinical expertise and leadership skills of audiologists dedicated to caring for children with hearing loss. This session will explore opportunities for LEND programs to enhance collaborative efforts, share curriculum and address areas of mutual interest.
