Community Emergency Planning; How to Make It Happen

Sunday, October 31, 2010 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm

Location: Arlington Room

Session Description

Community disaster recovery starts with planning and preparedness, but effective planning and preparedness means involving everyone in the community in the process. Presenters will discuss their experiences having brought people with disabilities and others with functional and access needs into the same orbit with local emergency management and other community officials to ensure planning and preparedness takes the entire community into account. This workshop will offer ideas about how to fold needs of people with disabilities (and others with functional and access needs) into local emergency planning. Creating and providing training for first responders (police, fire, rescue, medical) about needs of people with disabilities and others with functional and access needs will also be covered.
