This event will focus on offering strategies and resources to support the growth and development of inclusive postsecondary education options for students with intellectual disabilities. Presentations will be offered in strands: Program Development, Employment Outcomes, Inclusive Academics, and Policy/Legislation/Research.

The 2016 Autism CARES Virtual Meeting was held virtually (i.e. through an online portal) on Thursday, July 21 as a half-day event exploring the topic of transition. During the meeting, MCHB-funded CARES legislation grantees (representing research, training, and state implementation stakeholders) shared information about activities within their respective networks, discussed emerging trends, and engaged in meaningful collaboration around transition research, policy and services.

The annual MIND Summer Institute on Neurodevelopmental Disorders is a one-day conference intended for a wide range of professionals. The focus of the Institute is to help participants keep pace with the latest advances in neurodevelopmental research and the most current standards for best practices in prevention, assessment, treatment, and support services, and increase their knowledge and skills in the areas of developmental disabilities, early identification, service provision, inclusion, transition to adulthood, and other medical, legal, social and policy issues related to disabilities.

There is a high rate of unemployment and underemployment among individuals on the autism spectrum. Paul Shattuck, founder of the National Autism Data Center, will describe the Center's activities with special emphasis on national indicators related to transition. Participants will learn about the range of information products available through Dr. Shattuck's center and plans for additional transition research projects. Shattuck's team reports that young adults on the autism spectrum often have worse employment outcomes in the first few years after high school than do peers who have other types of disabilities. Ms. Laura Ivanova Smith, UW LEND Advocate Faculty, will describe the support she received from her mother while transitioning out of high school and into college.

Dr. Acharya will review the most recent data about health care transition for adolescents and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). During the webinar, she will describe standard of care for health care transition and highlight strategies to support the transition to aDr. Acharya is a board certified developmental and behavioral pediatrician and internist at the University of Illinois at Chicago and the director of the Illinois Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Program. Dr. Acharya cares for individuals with developmental disabilities using a lifespan perspective from childhood to adulthood. She is particularly interested in supporting adolescents and young adults with developmental disabilities as they transition to adult-systems of care and beyond.dult-centered health care for this population.

Staff from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will discuss DS-Connect: The Down Syndrome Registry (https://DSConnect.nih.gov) and what it can offer families. They will describe how families can fill out surveys, participate in research, and view the aggregate de-identified data. NIH staff will also show how a researcher or clinician interested in any aspect of Down syndrome can use the registry for learning about Down syndrome and recruiting participants for studies. Webinar participants will also learn about progress in studies being supported by DS-Connect.

Please join us to hear about national work and discuss issues pertinent to the topic of supporting autistic individuals as they transition to adulthood. Dr. Eric Moody from Wyoming Institute for Disabilities will moderate a three expert panel presentation and facilitate questions and comments from webinar participants.

The 2019 Success Conference: Redefining Transition will feature local and state-wide vendors/agencies/organizations, an expert panel, and a motivational keynote speaker.

Join our national learning group! This group will meet monthly for the next 12-18 months to develop a network-wide strategy for implementing healthcare transition efforts that include people with disabilities and families.

The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Social Security Administration, funded six model demonstration projects to improve the education and career outcomes of low income children with disabilities receiving SSI and their families. Findings from the implementation of these projects will be presented in this session.

The 143rd AAIDD Annual Meeting will provide a forum for researchers, practitioners, policymakers, students and advocates to learn about innovations in our field that are being translated and implemented on a grander scale. Through knowledge translation we can change practices and policies through effectively communicating our research and creating change at all levels. In a political climate that is complex and dynamic, it is important to remain relevant through the thoughtful translation of our knowledge.

Each year, AUCD supports the live broadcast of Baylor College of Medicine's Chronic Illness and Disability Conference: Transition from Pediatric to Adult-Based Care. This is a unique and low-cost professional development and learning opportunity for faculty, staff, and trainees from LENDs, DBPs, UCEDDs, and IDDRCs. It can also be a great way to engage community partners, including leaders from self-advocacy and family organizations. CART captioning will be provided for all broadcast sessions.
