• The Multicultural Council (MCC) provides leadership and assists the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) to respond to the requirements for inclusion, diversity, and cultural competence as set forth in the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000.
• The Council supports AUCD to implement its Strategic Map with an emphasis on growing diverse and skilled leaders, and modeling diversity, equity, and inclusion with and on behalf of people with developmental disabilities and their families throughout the network.

• Ensure the meaningful participation of individuals from culturally diverse and underrepresented groups in all activities and across all levels of the Association.
• Incorporate salient issues in public policy initiatives, at the national, state, and territorial levels that disproportionately impact individuals with developmental disabilities and their families from racially, ethnically, and culturally diverse groups.
• Create professional development and learning opportunities for member programs that increase capacity and leadership for diversity, inclusion, equity, and cultural and linguistic competence.
• Identify and broker partnerships with organizations and communities concerned with diversity, equity, and inclusion that are external to the AUCD network to effect systems change.
• Inform the work of other AUCD Councils and assist them to incorporate diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural and linguistic competence in their deliberations and activities.

The Council membership consists of one voting representative from a member program that is endorsed by the Director of the program including UCEDDs, IDDRCs and LENDs. The Council welcomes the participation of other individuals who are interested in advancing the vision, mission, and values of AUCD within the contexts of individuals at risk for and with developmental disabilities and their families from under-served populations and communities in the U.S. territories, and tribal nations.

Update your profile in the Directory to reflect your membership in the Multicultural Council today! The online Directory is used to identify network members with particular areas of expertise. For this purpose, network members are encouraged to complete the sections on Professional Areas of Interest and Expertise and Vita or Bio, as well as upload a photo, and indicate your Council membership.

MCC news and updates are shared via the MCC listserv and MCC slack workspace. To engage with MCC, you are encouraged to join both platforms.

Slack Workspace
Slack is a cloud-based instant messaging platform. Updated MCC meeting minutes and post-meeting/webinar discussions are shared on the slack workspace. To join the AUCD_MCC workspace, please email Chevelle Glymph at AUCD for an invitation link.

Discussion Listserv
The MCC discussion list is a members-only discussion list hosted by AUCD. Subscription requests and postings are moderated by AUCD staff. Join the Multicultural Council listserv.
