AUCD Emerging Leaders Interns

 

Overview

There are over 3,000 trainees from every state and territory in the AUCD network, all committed to collaborating and positively impacting the lives of people with disabilities. AUCD is seeking three (3) Emerging Leaders interns who are interested in learning more about information sharing, resource development, and stakeholder engagement in a national non-profit organization setting. Interns will work together to passionately represent the network of current and former trainees, including early career professionals, and act as connection points between their respective centers/programs and the broader national network. Over the academic year, AUCD's goal is for interns to learn, connect with each other and experts from across the country, get involved in a range of opportunities, and ultimately grow as advocates, clinicians, researchers, or any other roles they may assume. 

The AUCD Emerging Leaders Interns will:

  • Develop leadership and communication skills
  • Strengthen the community of emerging leaders through a range of projects
  • Engage with diverse stakeholders across the AUCD network

AUCD is committed to providing Emerging Leader interns with tasks that will support their professional growth, all while empowering their peers to make an impact on the local, state, and national levels. They will serve as representatives to the broader AUCD network, interacting with AUCD staff at all levels and the Emerging Leaders Representative on the AUCD Board of Directors. 

The Emerging Leader interns will receive direction and mentorship from dedicated staff at the AUCD central office. AUCD will provide funding for the two Training and Outreach interns to attend and perform duties at the AUCD Conference (November 5th-8th, 2023). AUCD will provide funding for the LEND Audiology trainee intern to attend and perform duties at the AUCD Conference as well as the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Conference (March 17th-19th, 2024).

Time Commitment, and Stipend

  • Work approximately 4-5 hours per week, except for the time immediately around conferences/events in which time commitment may increase
    • Please note that all activities (e.g., webinars, calls, check-ins, etc.) will primarily occur during AUCD's business hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Eastern Time (ET). 
  • Each intern will receive a total stipend of $1,750 divided into two equal installments and provided at the end of each academic semester. 

 

Application Process

Before applying, all interested trainees are encouraged to have a conversation with their Center/Program Director or Training Director about the time and travel commitments associated with the position. For example, it will be helpful for applicants to know if internship hours can be applied to training requirements (e.g., a leadership project) or not.  Applications that do not include all the required elements risk not being reviewed.

  • Your resume or CV (no more than 2 pages)
  • A letter of interest (no more than 500 words) describing:
    • (1) why you want to serve in this role
    • (2) how you see it contributing to your professional growth, and
    • (3) how the position matches your current skillset
  • A statement of support from your Program Director or Training Director

AUCD LEND Audiology Intern, Technical Assistance and Engagement (1 Position Available) 

 

 Qualifications

  • Rising third- or fourth-year Audiology trainee at a LEND program 
  • Interest in Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) system  
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and adapt communication appropriately for purpose and audience 
  • Familiarity with web-based tools (including but not limited to email, zoom, and social media) to communicate and exchange information
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with distance supervison
  • Please note that meetings will be held during Eastern Time (ET) hours 

 

Responsiblities 

  • Play a significant role in the planning, coordination, and execution of activities related to the 2024 EHDI Conference, including (but not limited to) the annual EHDI workshop for LEND Audiology trainees in the Spring  
  • Contribute to the development of products and materials, including webinars, professional development trainings, and networking events  
  • Engage with other LEND Audiology trainees on various communication platforms (direct mail lists, social media, etc.) in accordance with AUCD protocols  
  • One-hour biweekly check-in meetings with AUCD staff and the other Emerging Leaders Interns (frequency may increase leading up to events)  
  • Attend relevant meetings with stakeholders as needed  
  • Complete other duties as requested by AUCD staff in a timely manner.

 

AUCD Emerging Leaders Intern, Training and Outreach (2 Positions Available) 

 

Qualifications 

  • New or returning trainee/fellow at a LEND, DBP, UCEDD, or IDDRC program in the upcoming academic year 
  • Foundational knowledge of the AUCD network and the desire to learn more
  • Interest in national issues related to people with disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to build culturally responsive relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and adapt communication appropriately for purpose and audience 
  • Familiarity with web-based tools (including but not limited to e-mail, websites, zoom, and social media) to communicate and exchange information
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with distance supervision 

 

 Responsibilities

  • Play a significant role in the planning, coordination, and execution of trainee-focused activities at the AUCD Conference.
  • Contribute to the development of products and materials for the Emerging Leaders Community including but not limited to webinars, professional development trainings, networking events, and the Emerging Leaders map 
    • Support the recruitment, engagement, and supervision of the AUCD Trainee Liaisons (trainee representatives from each Program and Center) 
    • Engage with the Emerging Leaders Community on various communication platforms (newsletters, direct mail lists, social media, etc.) in accordance with AUCD protocols 
    • Regularly share resources, events, and/or materials with trainees
  • Respond in a timely manner to inquiries through the Emerging Leaders e-mail account 
  • Attend relevant meetings with stakeholders as needed  
  • Complete other duties as requested by AUCD staff in a timely manner 
  • One-hour biweekly check-in meetings with AUCD staff and the other Emerging Leaders Interns (frequency may increase leading up to events)  
  • Participation in the 2023 AUCD Conference.
