Mailman Center for Child Development, University of Miami, UCEDD, LEND
Aliana I. Romero, AuD, CCC-A, is a pediatric audiologist at the Mailman Center for Child Development, University of Miami. She is the daughter of Cuban and Puerto Rican immigrants and is originally from Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Romero received her Doctor of Audiology degree from Nova Southeastern University and a BS in Health and Human Performance with a concentration in Exercise Science from Georgia College & State University. She is an active member in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and the Florida Association of Speech-Language-Pathologists & Audiologists. As an audiology extern, she completed the curriculum in Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) at the Mailman Center for Child Development.
She works with Early Steps, Florida’s early intervention system and participates in the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program at Jackson Memorial Hospital. She has completed the University of Miami Emerging Transformational Leadership Program and is currently a member of the AUCD Leadership Academy 2022-2023 cohort. Most recently, she has become a member of the Disability Network Alliance Employee Research Group (ERG). This ERG was established to be a welcoming “home” for individuals with disabilities and their allies in the University of Miami Community. It is also designed to serve the university disability community through advocacy, educational programs, and university-wide social events. One of the important lessons she has learned through her involvement with this ERG is that disabilities are not always obvious and visible. There are many individuals with invisible disabilities who also require a welcoming “home” and systems advocacy.
She devotes herself to creating positive healthcare experiences for her patients and their families. Aliana is dedicated to educating and mentoring students/future leaders and transforming systems of care for people with developmental disabilities in the community. When she is not in the clinic, Aliana can be found stand-up paddle boarding around South Florida waterways or watching college football (go dawgs!)
