Verlencia Somuah

Currently, I am obtaining my Master's of Social Work from Columbia University in the City of New York. Specializing in Advanced Generalist Practice and Programming with a field of practice in World of Work focused towards diversity, equity, and inclusion geared to assist marginalized and oppressed groups, such as people of color and people with disabilities. I previously graduated from the University of Connecticut in May of 2018. Since beginning my advanced degree, I hope to further my career working with nonprofit organizations and philanthropic services. I have gained versatile skills through my position at the Urban Justice Center and with my background of policy practice, clinical skills, and programming I believe I have a platform to expand and advocate for disability rights and diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.

I have a passion for interacting with and supporting the people and communities around me. As a person with a disability, I hope to utilize the advocacy I've received from those in my own community to advocate for others in similar situations as myself. I've always had a strong interest in serving and working to better the needs of individuals, groups, and diverse communities. Or at least to be able to impact those who need guidance and inspiration.
