Max Soh

Max Soh is an intern with AUCD for the summer of 2017 as part of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) Summer Internship Program. At AUCD, Max is involved with a variety of projects, particularly with aiding in the development of the Diversity Toolkit.

Max is a recent graduate from Biola University, located in Southern California, where he graduated with a B.A. in Sociology. While a student at Biola, Max was involved with a number of leadership positions that centered around his passion for social justice and equity including advocating on behalf of various minority groups on his campus through frequent meetings with university administration faculty and deans as his university's Student Government Diversity Liaison. Max has also been involved with the advocacy of disability rights including co-leading a student-led initiative during his undergraduate studies aiming to bring awareness to disability rights and teaching computer skills to the visually impaired at the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped located in the nation-state of Singapore - where he was born and raised.

Other experiences include working as a research and assessment intern in his university's first cohort of Student Assessment Scholars - a program designed by several institutions of higher education that aims to train students in the work of research and assessment - where he had the opportunity to design a pilot study regarding the racial and ethnic climate of college residence halls, and volunteering and contributing to the work of Community Initiatives for Visiting Immigrants in Confinement (CIVIC), a national immigration detention visitation network that works to end immigration detention in the United States through monitoring abuses to human rights, building community-based alternatives to detention, and advocating for systemic change.

Max is currently seeking pursuance in graduate studies in the field of Human Rights Studies.
