This webinar, offered by the Autistic Self Advocacy Network in partnership with the Autism Intervention Research Network on Physical Health (AIR-P), will provide an overview of plain language writing for people who may be more used to writing in academic language. Attendees will learn the principles of plain language writing and have a chance to put them into practice with interactive exercises. There will also be time for questions and answers.

Summary:
The Winter 2024 installment of the Administrative Essentials Series will be an engaging Director-hosted roundtable with a focus on organizational and structural models for UCEDDs. Fellow UCEDD Directors will share insights into their organizational/structural models, staffing patterns, interaction and dynamics between their UCEDD and the LEND/IDDRC, and blending or braiding of funding. Together, we will explore creative strategies and promising practices across the UCEDD Network in this area.

Summary:
This webinar was a collaborative effort between AUCD's Council on Research and Evaluation (CORE) and the National Association of State Directors of Development Disabilities Services (NASDDDS). The webinar had the following objectives: 1. Examine post-school employment outcomes for transition-age youth with intellectual disabilities, autism and other developmental disabilities; 2. Gain an overview of recommended and promising practices that increase employment outcomes for students with significant intellectual and developmental disabilities; 3. Discuss how research findings can be used to develop public policy to improve transition outcomes.

Presenters:
Sarah Taub, MA Is a Senior Policy Specialist with the Human Services Research Institute. She currently oversees HSRI?s work on the National Core Indicators (NCI) Program, a joint effort between NASDDDS and HSRI to measure indicators and benchmarks of performance across state developmental disabilities service systems. She also provides technical assistance to states in the areas of quality assurance and improvement strategies. Kathy Sheppard-Jones, PhD, CRC Dr. Sheppard-Jones is the Training Director at the Human Development Institute at the University of Kentucky where she facilitates the Graduate Certificate in Developmental Disabilities, an 11 credit hour interdisciplinary learning experience for post-baccalaureate students that focuses on leadership and research in the field of developmental disabilities. She has overseen Kentucky?s participation in National Core Indicators since 1999. In this role, she also coordinates Kentucky?s NCI Quality Improvement Committee, the group responsible for providing recommendations to the state based on NCI results. Dr Sheppard-Jones currently serves as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on six projects of state and national significance. Dr. Sheppard-Jones is also Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling Department, where she teaches on transition, independent living, supported employment, and human growth and development. Her research interest areas are quality of life, assistive technology, and transition to postsecondary education.

Summary:
This webinar is one in a series of webinars organized by the Southeast Regional Consortium and AUCD. The learning objectives of this webinar were: 1. Become familiar with National Core Indicators, its history, and current activities 2. Learn about the Adult Consumer Survey and how states use the data collected 3. Gain an understanding of Kentucky's use of NCI data 4. Learn about the Human Development Institute's development of initiatives in response to the NCI data.
