This webinar, offered by the Autistic Self Advocacy Network in partnership with the Autism Intervention Research Network on Physical Health (AIR-P), will provide an overview of plain language writing for people who may be more used to writing in academic language. Attendees will learn the principles of plain language writing and have a chance to put them into practice with interactive exercises. There will also be time for questions and answers.

Summary:
The Winter 2024 installment of the Administrative Essentials Series will be an engaging Director-hosted roundtable with a focus on organizational and structural models for UCEDDs. Fellow UCEDD Directors will share insights into their organizational/structural models, staffing patterns, interaction and dynamics between their UCEDD and the LEND/IDDRC, and blending or braiding of funding. Together, we will explore creative strategies and promising practices across the UCEDD Network in this area.

Summary:
This webinar (1) described how genetic and genomic medicine is impacting the field of developmental disabilities (2) compared and contrasted three types of clinical genetic tests that are routinely performed in individuals with developmental disabilities, including cytogenetic, molecular and biochemical testing (3) discussed selected examples of genetic conditions that cause developmental disabilities and (4) discussed the indications, benefits and limitations, and process for interpreting clinical genetic testing.

Vijay Vasudevan is a PhD candidate at the University of Illinois at Chicago in Disability Studies with a concentration in health promotion. He will be discussing the current state of questionnaires measuring barriers to physical activity and the development of a new questionnaire measuring barriers to physical activity within an ecological framework. Alicia Dixon- Ibarra is a PhD candidate at Oregon State University in the Movement Studies in Disability program and MPH student in epidemiology. She will discuss her research on the development of a health promotion program designed for individuals living in a group home setting. She will provide an overview of the program developmental phases and focus group results from key stakeholders in the group home setting (i.e., residents with ID, support staff, and program coordinators). Kerri A. Vanderbom is a PhD candidate at Oregon State University in the movement Studies in Disability program. She will discuss the importance of improving health for individuals with spina bifida and her research about conducting a physical activity needs assessment for adults with spina bifida, including preliminary results.
