2008-09 NSIP Grant Summaries

The Institute for Community Inclusion's (MA UCEDD) National Service Inclusion Project awarded three $20,000 grants. The primary objective for this Service Inclusion Project funding opportunity will be generating and implementing strategies that will result in measurable increases in the application, enrollment, and retention of service members and/or volunteers with disabilities by the UCEDD in partnership with their respective State Commissions or CNCS State Offices and a local National Service program(s). Partnering with a national service program and the State Commission/State Office should allow for impact on local, regional, and/or state-wide programs.

2007-08 National Service Inclusion Project Fellowship Program

The goal of the NSIP Fellows Program is to increase and enhance the disability and national service field's understanding and capacity to develop and implement strategies to allow citizens with disabilities to fully participate in service and volunteerism. This will be accomplished through the collaborative experience of the fellow and a person with a disability. Two fellows were chosen to participate in the Fellowship Program's inaugural year. Congratulations to Laura Lacey (Learn & Serve Program, Brooke Point High School, VA) and Michael Bray (Developmental Disabilities Institute, MI UCEDD) on receiving the $9,000.00 NSIP Fellowships.

2006-08 NSIP Grant Summaries: Inclusive of Individuals with Disabilities as Active Volunteers and Service Members in National Service

The Institute for Community Inclusion's (MA UCEDD) National Service Inclusion Project awarded four $40,000 grants.

The primary objective of these 18-month grants will be identifying the number of individuals with disabilities willing to apply and enroll in national service and describing the support strategies utilized to ensure a positive experience and retention. To achieve this, the UCEDD must recruit, establish a contractual agreement, and fund the active participation of a consumer-directed disability organization or group that will work in partnership with their respective State Commissions and/or State Office.
