JOB PURPOSE:   

The Wyoming Institute for Disabilities (WIND) is an academic unit within the College of Health Sciences and houses a small interdisciplinary faculty. A key faculty role is that of Research Scientist Assistant who is responsible for evaluation of several key programs in our department, annual reporting to our funder, quantitative and qualitative analysis, managing several research projects, and methodological expertise. Research Scientists are academic professionals whose primary responsibilities are to conduct and support research. UW Regulation 2-7 describes the activities that fall into this set of responsibilities for faculty; the same definition of research applies to Academic Professionals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Conduct research and evaluation to improve programs, meet contract and grant deliverables and WIND research objectives, and help guide statewide policy and planning.
  • Contribute to contract and grant proposals to leverage additional funding to support for WIND research agenda.
  • In collaboration with Director of Research and Evaluation, establish a publication record of 2-3 manuscript proposals to peer reviewed journals.
  • Guide data management and annual WIND reporting.
  • Actively participate in departmental, college and university committees
  • Complete professional development opportunities to expand/enhance understanding of the field of intellectual/developmental disabilities, your academic discipline and/or research and evaluation.
  • Independently develop grant and contract submissions in line with the WIND research agenda and individual research interests

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

On-Campus work is preferred for collaboration with colleagues however, this position is eligible for remote work and/or a flexible work schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • M.S. in relevant social science or public health field. 
  • Experience with primary research, data analysis, program evaluation, manuscript preparation and other essential research skills
  • Progressive experience in research environments

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • PhD in disability studies, social sciences, public health or related field
  • Experience with community-based participatory research, community action research or related methodologies
  • Proficiency with SPSS or related statistical analysis software
  • Experience preparing grant proposals
  • Author of peer-reviewed articles and contributions to generalized knowledge of relevant subjects.
  • Participation in relevant conferences
  • Experience teaching graduate students, and/or supervising graduate assistants
