Meeting Intern, Marketing & Communications, Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), Silver Spring, MD

AUCD, a national nonprofit organization supporting the disability community, is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and goal-oriented part-time Meeting Intern to support our annual fall conference preparation, and other meeting-related activities beginning in September and running through the end of November. This is a paid internship requiring a 20 hour per week commitment. The AUCD Conference brings together more than 1,200 researchers, policymakers, practitioners, professionals, advocates, community leaders, and students. This annual event is designed to promote innovative thinking that will launch disability policy, research, and advocacy initiatives to the next level.

Overview of Responsibilities

The Meeting Intern will have the opportunity to participate first-hand in the development and execution of AUCD's Annual Conference. Under the supervision of the Director of Marketing and Communications, they will work closely with AUCD office staff, network members, external partners, hotel staff and other vendors. In addition, this position will support other meeting-related activities of the organization related to meeting specification development, registration and hotel reservation confirmations, and general meeting planning support.

Position Requirements

  • Education: Candidates must be enrolled in at least an undergraduate-level or graduate/certification program in communications, hospitality, or a relevant field.
  • Experience: You will be qualified for this position if you have exceptional writing, communication, and computer skills. Must be detail-oriented, have basic research knowledge and possess a willingness to work as a team member. Interest in the area of disabilities, developmental disabilities and experience with people with disabilities is a plus.

Note: This will be an in-office position for up to 16 hours each week. The AUCD office is located in Silver Spring, Maryland, one block from the red line Silver Spring Metro station and next to a county-maintained parking garage.
