Job Summary
The Human Development Institute represents the broad definition of diversity, which includes identity, disability, perspective, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, geography, LGBTQ+ status, gender, etc. The Executive Director will provide oversight for all diversity and inclusion activities that support students and staff members of HDI. HDI Directors will create and implement a strategic DEI plan that is consistent with the University of Kentucky's strategic initiatives. This position will be 50% institute wide management and responsibility for our disability inclusion efforts and 50% research. It will co-chair the DEI Committee, to include making recommendations and implementing HDI wide goals and training. Work will be directed toward creating an inclusive environment that promotes culturally responsive interactions. In addition to training and administrative duties, they will work within the research infrastructure at HDI to conduct research in DEI to enable cross-project collaboration. Focus will be made on adding to the institute-wide knowledge base around DEI with an emphasis on multiple identities that include disability. HDI holds a commitment to diversity in all of its forms, at all levels of our organization. Interest in applicants who have lived experience with disability and embrace a broad view of diversity.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Employees sound project management practices, methodologies, and principles to accomplish work. Ability to attain goals through knowledge of regulation and accreditation requirements, as well as incorporate best practices into initiatives. Proven ability to organize information; assess, utilize, and navigate online platforms; and conduct detailed data analysis and develop reports based on data. Ability to serve as an advocate and resource for persons of color, all ethnicities, all genders, all ages, LGBTQ*, all faith backgrounds, first generation learners, and people who experience disability. Strong commitment to disability, equity, and inclusion. Team orientation and inclusive philosophy. Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations and matters with diplomacy and superior judgement. Ability to build relationships and balance the multiple, varying, and conflicting interests of stakeholders. Ability to complete high-level analysis of data. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while handling a demanding workload. Strong leadership, administrative, planning and presentation skills, including oral and written communications.
