Research Associate, Texas Center for Disability Studies (TCDS)
Steve Hicks School of Social Work

The Research Associate will work on building research capacity of TCDS, by assisting TCDS staff in writing grant proposals, establishing a TCDS Scientific Advisory Board, fostering collaborations with researchers and community members in Central Texas, and building on his/her own program of developmental disability related research. The associate will take the lead on a current project funded by the Administration on Community Living on vaccine receipt and needs among people with disabilities in Texas.

Responsibilities

 

  • Manage the Vaccine Needs Assessment Project: overseeing recruitment, data collection and analysis
  • Stay abreast of grant opportunities related to the work of TCDS and work with TCDS staff on writing and submitting new proposals.
  • Assist staff with IRB submissions when needed
  • Working with the TCDS Director, establish a Scientific Advisory Committee with faculty across the UT campus
  • Coordinate and facilitate Autism Consortium of Texas monthly meetings, recruiting and scheduling guest speakers, arranging venues, etc.
  • Build on your own developmental disability related research by writing scientific papers, presenting at conferences, and developing a research grant proposal.

 

Qualifications

PhD in Social Science related field with research experience with developmental disability related populations. Experience and proficiency with quantitative research and data analytic methods including multivariate analysis. Experience with grant proposal development.  Excellent writing and organizational skills required. TCDS is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity and has a strong interest in research with culturally diverse populations.

Preferred qualifications

Experience managing research projects. Experience with qualitative methods, intervention research and/or program evaluation. Fluency in Spanish and/or experience conducting research with culturally diverse populations.
