Associate Director - Speech-Language Pathology Department, Munroe-Meyer Institute, University of Nebraska Medical Center

We are looking for a faculty member to join our Speech-Language Pathology team at Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI)! MMI's mission is to be world leaders in transforming the lives of all individuals with disabilities and complex health care needs, their families and the community through outreach, engagement, premier educational programs, innovative research and extraordinary patient care. MMI just moved into the world's most advanced, 220,000 sq ft facility for diagnostics and care of individuals with IDD (https://www.unmc.edu/mmi/about/annual-rpts/mmi-annual-rpt-2020.pdf). MMI Speech Department also contracts with our partner, Nebraska Medicine, to provide acute care speech-language pathology services. The SLP Department at MMI consists of 30 SLPs with a wide range of specialties, including motor speech, language, voice, AAC, cognitive-communication disorders, and swallowing. As clinical faculty in the MMI SLP Department, this individual would be responsible for conducting clinical, translational or other applicable research within their area of clinical specialty, overseeing the Nebraska Medicine speech-language pathology contract and inpatient team, grant-writing, and training of entry-level, clinical and/or graduate level students. This full-time, 12 month academic track position boasts a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate to experience and/or academic rank and 20% protected research time. Responsibilities broadly encompass:

Clinical: Providing diagnosis and treatment to individuals in the acute care setting with speech, language, voice, cognitive-linguistic, or swallowing disorders; completing accurate records of evaluation and treatment; developing clinical service programs to improve hospital-based services, establishing hospital and community partnerships, and providing oversight of such programs/partnerships.

Education: Developing and instructing graduate and/or post-graduate students at a level commensurate with experience and scholarly credentials; developing and teaching classes in masters and doctoral degree programs at MMI; providing lectures, workshops, and training opportunities in interdisciplinary settings at Nebraska Medicine, MMI departments and programs and community partners; presenting at local, regional or national conferences in areas relevant to expertise.

Research: Developing and maintaining clinical research expertise within topics related to SLP services; pursuing and securing extramural funding for clinical/translational research; developing and participating in interdisciplinary and intercampus research, program development, and training; supervising of postdoc/inter/graduate student research projects.

Management and Supervision: Overseeing the Inpatient SLP program and staff; supervising half of the clinical SLPs; managing the hospital SLP contract and budget; Attending quarterly meetings with Inpatient Rehabilitation Directors, performing quarterly Quality Improvement indicator audits and creating reports for Nebraska Medicine, serving on the SLP Leadership Team.

Required Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology or related area (Strong ABD candidate considered); licensure or license eligibility to practice speech-language pathology in the state of Nebraska; Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA); Minimum three years of experience in the provision of SLP services.

Supplemental Qualifications:
Experience in dysphagia. Experience completing MBS and/or FEES. Experience in supervision and management. Skills in public speaking and presentations.
