Hiring Department:

The UMKC Institute for Human Development, University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (IHD) is an applied research and training center for human services designed to exemplify the University's goals of engaged scholarship and community partnerships. Its functions include interdisciplinary training, applied research, community program development and information dissemination.

Job Description:

This position will lead the information dissemination function at the UMKC Institute for Human Development (IHD) to ensure information dissemination strategies are effective, accessible and follow best standards. The function involves the creation, organization, and dissemination of information including professional publications and products. Outcomes of this function are intended to increase public awareness, build capacity, and expand research and practice knowledge within the field of developmental disabilities. This position will serve as Principal Investigator over a portfolio of grants and contracts and will be responsible for building an effective multidisciplinary communications team, supervising personnel, fiscal management, developing new initiatives, promoting UMKC-IHD's brand, designing and implementing an annual communications plan, evaluating communications effectiveness, providing support to IHD training, research, and education teams, and representation within local, regional, and national contexts. This person will be part of IHD's management team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead an interdisciplinary communications team (managing people, finances, resources) including project and performance management and the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic plans.
  • Lead dissemination and marketing strategies, including digital design, social media, and print to a diverse array  of target audiences with UMKC IHD.
  • Ensure all UMKC IHD products are accessible for all stakeholder groups including those with IDD, and follow universal design principles for website, training & dissemination, etc.
  • Ensure all UMKC IHD published materials, products, and activities address language, culture, literacy, and access barriers.
  • Develop and foster strong partnerships with local, state, and national partners among academic, policy, clinical practice, government, and voluntary and private sectors.
  • Lead activities related to web design, SEO visibility, and digital analytics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications of a terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., MFA, etc.) in marketing, communications, graphics design, education, or similar field.
  • Minimum of two years of management-level experience leading communications or marketing team.

$75,000 - $90,376 annual, commensurate with experience and education.
