The Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) for Genetics and Rehabilitation at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) in Omaha is recruiting a visionary director to lead the Department of Occupational Therapy. The position is a full-time, 12 months position with salary and benefits commensurate with experience and academic rank. The selected candidate is expected to support and augment a nationally-recognized OT program that is integrated and collaborative across MMI disciplines and programs. The new director should start in her/his role no later than September 1, 2021.
Position Description:
- Oversee all OT services at MMI; this includes acquisitioning, leading, and managing a department of 20+ staff providing/supporting school-based services to a large metropolitan school district, a private comprehensive educational program, and medically-related outpatient and interdisciplinary clinical services to individuals across the lifespan with a wide array of developmental diagnoses.
- Provide/support school based OT therapy services for school based contracts as needed.
- Oversee OT department budget allowances and allocation.
- Establish new evidence-based OT services and lifespan programming at MMI.
- Coordinate training and professional advancement of all OT faculty and staff.
- Build capacity for a clinical translational OT research program, including project development, grant-writing, interdisciplinary collaboration, and recruitment of academic faculty.
- Build relationships and interact with the community partners and organizations supporting individuals with IDD to expand clinical and transitional training opportunities.
- Coordinate, support, and strengthen an AOTA approved Pediatric OT Fellowship Program and our clinical pre-service pediatric fieldwork training.
- Oversee and support the coordination of OT School based/Clinical Fieldwork experiences of Level I, II and Capstone Students
- Develop joint programs with other departments at MMI as well as UNL/UNMC/UNO academic units and Nebraska Medicine. Initial efforts to focus on collaboration within the Integrated Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (iCASD) and newly forming Habilitation Services Division, Assistive Technology Department.
- Support UNMC College of Allied Health Professions newly-developing clinical doctoral occupational therapy program with development of pediatric, AT and/or IDD curricular content.
- Serve on the Occupational Therapy Doctoral Advisory Board as requested.
- Recruit outstanding clinical care providers, educators, and researchers.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed or eligible for occupational therapy license in the State of Nebraska.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in pediatric clinical practice.
- AOTA Board Certification in Pediatric Occupational Therapy (BCP) or Specialty Certification in School Systems (SCSS)
- Earned academic doctorate (e.g. PhD, EdD, DHS, DPH, or DSc).
- Emerging or established record of scholarly activity.
- Experience with post-secondary education.
