The Affirmative Action Office (AAO) supports Penn State's strategic goals of advancing a diverse and inclusive community by providing expert advice and leadership to colleges and departments, faculty, and staff ensuring a workplace free from discrimination and harassment. The office's primary role is to ensure the University's compliance with federal Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action regulations. We are seeking a candidate for the position of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)/504 Coordinator. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Affirmative Action, the ADA/504 Coordinator is responsible for coordinating University compliance with the ADA, as amended, Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to individuals with disabilities. Specific duties include overseeing requests for employment-related reasonable accommodations across the University and providing consultation to departments and units responding to such requests, responding to complaints from University employees, students, and the general public alleging non-compliance or discrimination on the basis of disability, and supervising the activities of the University's American Sign Language (ASL) staff interpreter. Active membership with the University Access Committee (UAC) leadership team which provides funding, consultation and training in areas related to facilities accessibility on a University-wide basis, and developing presentations and communications for employees related to understanding the University's responsibilities under the ADA, Rehabilitation Act, and other relevant disability related topics, are also significant components of the position.

The ADA/504 Coordinator will also provide technical assistance on the ADA to the University community as needed. Primary areas of coordination include employment, programs, and facilities and the scope of responsibility includes faculty, staff, and student employment, as well as access to University programs and facilities for the general public. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. Requires comprehensive knowledge of laws and regulations related to the ADA, current legislation affecting the employment of individuals with disabilities, as well as regulations specific to housing, accessible information and communication technology, transportation, and air travel for individuals with disabilities. Candidates must demonstrate excellent judgment, organizational and communication skills, as well as effective investigative techniques, along with a high degree of personal/professional ethics and an ability to maintain professional boundaries. Must also be able to establish rapport and work cooperatively with various levels of faculty, staff, students, the general public and outside agencies, within a multi-campus, highly interdisciplinary environment, and demonstrate a strong commitment to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.
