Genetics and metabolism specialists at UW Health in Madison, Wisconsin, help individuals and their families to understand and cope with genetic conditions, birth defects and other disorders. Our services include diagnosis, counseling, care coordination and referral.

We are seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant: 

  • Provide diagnostic evaluations and management recommendations for patients of all ages with or at risk for genetic and metabolic disorders in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Medical and Biochemical Genetics clinics are currently located at the Waisman Center in partnership with UW Hospital and Clinics and the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. Inpatient consultations are also provided at American Family Children's Hospital, UW Hospital and Clinics, Unity Point-Meriter Hospital, and St. Mary's Hospital in Madison.
  • Coordinate care for patients with complex needs including providing support, problem solving and referrals to other health care providers and community services.

Education:  
Minimum -
If Nurse Practitioner: Master's or Doctorate's degree from accredited Nursing Program.
If Physician Assistant: Bachelor's or Master's degree from accredited PA Program.
Preferred - Prior education or training in genetic and/or metabolic disorders.

Work Experience:

Minimum - Prior clinical practice experience, or a demonstrated interest and ability to actively learn a new specialty.
Preferred - Prior experience providing care for patients of all ages with genetic disorders including inborn errors of metabolism.

Physical Requirements:Light: Ability to lift up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

Work Schedule: 100% FTE, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. No holidays or call requirements.
