The Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council, a statewide public policy and advocacy organization, is recruiting a Director of Public Policy Initiatives. We are a dynamic organization working to advance the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities through systems-level advocacy, grant making, resource development, and capacity building.

The Director of Public Policy Initiatives will have responsibility for achieving outcomes in multiple assigned public policy and advocacy areas. Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Leads, coordinates, and participates in various initiatives and activities of the Council related to   the Council's State Plan.  

  • Advocates for lasting improvements in policies, practices, services, programs, laws, and regulations that affect people with developmental disabilities and their families.        

  • As a member of the Council's public policy team, actively engages in legislative work, including analyzing legislation and departmental budgets and providing written and oral testimony, as well as assisting others to do so.

  • Represents the Council on committees, coalitions, and commissions to further the Council's mission and impact public policy and program issues.

  • Conducts outreach and establishes partnerships with diverse communities to further the Council's mission and impact issues affecting those communities.

  • Participates in the design of new initiatives and Requests for Proposals that promote community inclusion and improve supports and services for people with developmental disabilities and their families.

  • Works on special projects and initiatives.
