The Center on Disability and Community Inclusion (CDCI) in the College of Education and Social Services at the University of Vermont (UVM) seeks applicants for a full-time, 12-month, Research Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) position. CDCI is part of a national network of University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. Each is affiliated with a major research university and serves as a resource for all people in the areas of education, research, and service relative to the needs of people with developmental disabilities.

Mission: CDCI, in collaboration and coordination with individuals with developmental disabilities, their families and communities, will promote opportunities for these valued life outcomes for individuals with disabilities of all ages in all facets of community life:

  • meaningful relationships,
  • personal choice and control,
  • meaningful activities,
  • safety and health, and
  • living in a home and community.

CDCI has over 20 projects, and our faculty and staff strive to achieve our mission by providing:

  • Interdisciplinary Preparation
  • Community and Outreach Services,
  • Family and Consumer Services,
  • Research and Evaluation, and
  • Dissemination of Information, in partnership with the programs and activities of university, agencies, and organizations.

The University

The Community
UVM is located in Burlington, Vermont, which is rated as one of the best small cities in the country. The greater Burlington area has an increasingly diverse population of about 125,000 and enjoys a panoramic setting on the shores of Lake Champlain, between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York State. The surrounding area provides an environment rich in cultural, civic and recreational activities. Vermont has a deep history of social activism and political participation. It offers many opportunities for collaborative partnerships in community and state-wide human service and social change organizations in multiple fields of practice, including state agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities commensurate with rank, including:

  • Engaging in research, scholarship and other professionally relevant creative activities that contribute to CDCI's mission and support projects at CDCI.
  • Communicate scholarly endeavors through multiple outlets including refereed journal articles, manuscripts, monographs, books.
  • Create and coordinate an interdisciplinary research and training center at CDCI focused on social, emotional, and behavioral well-being.
  • Provide research and evaluation technical assistance to CDCI personnel.
  • Oversight and management for externally funded research and evaluation projects including conducting data collection, data management, analyses, and dissemination.
  • Write grants and contracts to expand CDCI research and evaluation opportunities.
  • Supervise and mentor staff and student research assistants.
  • Collaborate with project teams to meet local, state, and federal requirements of federally funded projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum requirements

  • Doctorate in social work, psychology, education, or in a closely related field;
  • Experience conducting interdisciplinary research and evaluation, particularly in social, emotional, behavioral, or mental health;
  • Experience with grant writing to fund research and evaluation;
  • Experience as project coordinator, co-investigator, or principal investigator for externally funded research grants;
  • Demonstrated commitment to scholarly productivity relevant to social, emotional and behavioral well-being;
  • Strong collegial, communication, and collaborative skills.

Desirable qualifications

  • Experience with interdisciplinary interventions for children and youth with emotional and behavioral challenges (e.g., wraparound, RENEW);
  • Experience providing research and evaluation consultation;
  • Experience providing supervision and mentorship of research assistants.
