Job Opportunities:

1. VTCAR Grants Specialist/Budget Manager (Full-time)

The VT Center for Autism Research (VTCAR) is a college-level center designed to promote multi-disciplinary state-of-the-art research related to autism and associated neurodevelopmental conditions. We currently focus on four core research areas, including biomedical/imaging, clinical translational, technology, and education research areas. We seek to become a nationally and internationally recognized autism research center, focused on cutting-edge research that merges multiple disciplines to understand the assessment, etiology, development, treatment, and public health impact of autism spectrum disorders. VTCAR will direct research from multiple disciplines that is dependent on grant funding for resources. The research is in collaboration with multiple departments at VT, research institutions, and service agencies. The Grants Specialist/Budget Manager position will have two primary functions of managing the financial activity of the center and facilitating grant proposal development and submission. Specific job duties include assisting all VTCAR faculty affiliates in the following ways:

  • provide support for the preparation, coordination, and submission of collaborative proposals for research funding
  • prepare and coordinate budgets for proposal submissions
  • assist faculty with management of grant budgets and expenditures, and assist faculty with interpretation of monthly grant reports
  • serve as the center's liaison in HokieMart for purchasing of services and materials, and maintain digital archives of materials useful to the research enterprise
  • prepare and oversee necessary internal and external reports, including monthly financial statements and other reports
  • develop and manage the annual budget for VTCAR and long-range forecasts for revenues and expenses that are relevant to the financial planning for the center

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business, science, psychology, education, or related field or equivalent level of training and or experience; experience with grant writing and submission; working knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping, and database management systems.

Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of university policies and procedures related to fiscal and purchasing activity; and experience using Banner Finance, Excel, Hokiemart, and Banner warehouse.

2. Clinician at the Virginia Tech Autism Clinic (Part-time)

The Virginia Tech Autism Clinic (VTAC) in the Psychology Department of Virginia Tech is seeking a part-time clinician as part of a grant-funded outreach project to expand our services to rural underserved areas of Southwest Virginia. VTAC is a community service clinic and training program for clinical psychology graduate students. VTAC provides clinical services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their families in the surrounding New River Valley. We use evidence-based services and assessment measures in order to provide the best quality of care, and tailor our services to the individual needs of each person. Our mission is to facilitate the fullest potential of people with ASD so that each person can lead the most satisfying and inclusive life as possible.

This part-time position will coordinate rural outreach and services, including some travel to these locations, and will provide support to the principal investigator in operations of the project. After being trained, this position will be involved in conducting parent education and providing training/consultation to students and professionals. Depending on qualifications, this position may also be involved as part of a team that delivers comprehensive diagnostic assessments consisting of the Autism Diagnostic Interview - Revised (ADI-R), the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2), measures of cognitive and adaptive functioning, and psychosocial measures of risk/resiliency and environmental supports.

Required qualifications:  Applicants must have administrative assistance experience in a professional environment, and experience working with clinical populations. Applicants must have valid driver's license and be willing to travel to rural areas using a university owned vehicle. Some university paid travel for training purposes is also part of this position.

Preferred qualifications:  Ideal applicants will have experience working with the ASD population. Applicants must have at least a Bachelor's Degree (or commensurate level of experience) in Psychology, Human Services, Special Education or a related field.
