Required Qualifications:
The successful applicant must have:

  • Master's degree in education, social work, psychology, public policy or other related disciplines and 1 or more years of research experience.
  • Experience designing and implementing all aspects for research projects that utilize both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Proficient at developing and evaluating effective survey and interview protocol items.
  • Experience with data analysis procedures.
  • Proficiency with database and analysis software.
  • Strong professional writing skills, including research or technical reports, peer reviewed research articles, or other print/electronic publications.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Desired Qualifications: Of particular interest but not required are:

  • Experience in grant writing.
  • Experience in mentoring staff and students to design effective research projects and to implement them ensuring data management and appropriate analyses.
  • Experience in working on federally funded projects.
  • Experience with software packages: Tableau, Excel, SPSS, STATA, SAS, R.
  • Experience in contributing to an applied research team.
  • Ability to work well with culturally and linguistically diverse populations and communities.
  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

About the Job:
A full-time (100% FTE) position is open in the Institute on Community Integration (ICI). This research position is designed to conduct currently funded and future research on programs and services for individuals with disabilities related to community living and employment services and supports. Project work for this position includes qualitative and quantitative research activities related to youth on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and employment consultants (ECs) who support job seekers with disabilities.

Primary duties will involve instrument design and development, data collection and management, data analysis, evaluation, writing technical reports as well as peer reviewed journal articles, and making presentations at state and national conferences for the following: 1) mixed methods implementation research with federal, state, local agencies, 2) intervention research with ECs, and 3) community living studies within the Research and Training Center on Community Living (RTC-CL). In addition, this position will also provide training and technical assistance to local, state, and federal partners related to ongoing research and project activities for the Promoting Readiness of Minors in Supplemental Security Income (PROMISE) TA Center and state and provider agencies. In this position, the researcher will be expected to assist with grant writing and developing new research opportunities by serving in coordination and authoring these sections of proposals. Preparing Institutional Review Board (IRB) documentation and applications is a component of this position.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:


Research (50%)

  • Conduct literature review, including meta-analysis related to employment, community living, and federal programs.
  • Design, develop, implement and monitor effective data management systems for qualitative, quantitative, and outcome data using Microsoft Office or other stand-alone programs
  • Design, implement and manage qualitative and quantitative research projects related to the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in community living and employment.
  • Conduct and/or guide the analyses of qualitative, quantitative, outcome, or evaluation data from research projects related to disability policy and services.
  • Write technical reports and peer reviewed journal articles on related research and project activities related to disability policy and services. Including but not limited to: formative and summative evaluations, policy recommendations, policy research briefs, and data visualizations.
  • Complete IRB documentation for research proposals and activities.
  • Ensure IRB policies are followed for all research involving human subjects.

Project Development and Management (50%)

  • Manage projects independently, including the development and management of work plans, timelines, and resources to meet project goals.
  • Supervise the work of professional staff and students in relation to specific project duties.
  • Lead or support the writing of grant proposals as requested.
  • Prepare progress reports to federal and other funding agencies.
  • Participate in ICI team meetings and events, as requested.
  • Provide in-person and virtual training, technical assistance, and outreach to diverse partners and stakeholders related to research and center activities.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.

The Institute on Community Integration (ICI) is a federally funded center within the College of Education and Human Development. ICI's mission is to improve policies and practices to support the community inclusion of individuals with disabilities through collaborative research, training, and information sharing. The Research and Training Center on Community Living (RTC-CL) is a national center on community living and participation for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities housed within ICI and conducts a wide range of research, training, and technical assistance and dissemination projects related to community supports.
