Research Associate - Indiana University, Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, Early Childhood Center, Special Education

The Early Childhood Center is dedicated to improving early childhood education/special education practices that result in positive outcomes for preschool and kindergarten-aged children and their families, particularly children with or at risk for developmental disabilities and poor school outcomes. We are seeking an individual with expertise in early childhood education/special education to assist the center in efforts to identify and promote evidence-based practices in early childhood classroom settings. This is a yearly appointed position.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaboratively conduct research and program evaluation efforts that examine the quality and impact of inclusive early education (preschool through kindergarten) services for young children who are at risk or experience developmental disabilities.
  • Collaboratively design and support the development of effective professional development opportunities for early education/special education practitioners.
  • Collaboratively design and conduct efforts that translate research to practice and promote the implementation of evidence-based practices in early education/special education.
  • Design and deliver presentations, workshops, online webinars, and other learning events for early educators and early childhood special educators.
  • Create written and electronic products for disseminating information about effective practices that bring about successful outcomes (e.g., journal articles, working papers, Facebook posts, podcasts).
  • Actively represent the center's vision, mission and work through collaborative partnerships with local, state, and national agencies and organizations.
  • Carry out the general mission of the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community to work with communities that welcome and support the meaningful participation of people of all abilities through research, education, and service.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in early childhood education, early childhood special education, or related field.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience working in the field of early education services for young children at risk for or with disabilities and their families.
  • Documented experience in designing and carrying out program and professional development efforts for fostering evidence-based practices.
  • Documented successful experience completing and obtaining state and/or federally funded proposals.
  • Demonstrated professional writing skills and a record of past publications and written products.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multiple disciplines and representatives of community/state agencies and institutions in creating collaborative research and program development/outreach efforts.
