Program Manager, Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), Silver Spring, MD

AUCD is currently seeking a dynamic individual to serve as a Program Manager working under the supervision of the Director, Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Technical Assistance. The individual filling this position will manage technical assistance activities of AUCD's cooperative agreement with the Maternal Child Health Bureau (MCHB). The cooperative agreement is currently funded under the Combating Autism Act and provides funding for the Interdisciplinary Technical Assistance Center (ITAC), supporting the national networks of MCHB-funded Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) and Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) training programs. This is a full-time, in-office position located in downtown Silver Spring, MD, one block from the red line Silver Spring Metro station.

The Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) is a national nonprofit organization that promotes and supports a national network of interdisciplinary centers on disabilities. The members of AUCD represent every US state and territory and include 67 University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs), 43 Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities Programs (LENDs) and 15 Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Centers (IDDRCs). Together, these organizations advance policy and practice through research, education, leadership, and services for and with individuals with developmental and other disabilities, their families and communities, in support of independence, productivity, and satisfying quality of life.


  • Manage technical assistance activities such as in-person and virtual meetings, trainings, topical work groups, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Develop web content, informational materials, training and technical materials, and other publications and resources to meet the needs of grantees
  • Collect project evaluation data; facilitate both project evaluation and grantee evaluation and progress reporting
  • Assist with coordination and serve as an AUCD consultant on MCHB site visits
  • Respond to requests for information and assistance from member centers and programs, federal MCHB project officers, and other partners
  • Represent the AUCD office, AUCD network members, and the cooperative agreement on advisory groups and at meetings and conferences locally and nationally
  • Assist the MCH Technical Assistance Director and other project staff in the coordination of technical assistance and network efforts
  • Carry out other activities that further the mission and goals of AUCD

Required Competencies

  • Knowledge of developmental disabilities including autism and their effects on individuals and their families
  • Knowledge of emerging issues in the maternal child health and disabilities fields
  • Ability to work on multiple complex projects simultaneously
  • Exceptional communication skills: in person, in print writing, and in electronic modes
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, database, and spreadsheet software
  • Demonstrated proficiency using web tools (email, website, social media, Skype) to communicate and exchange information

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2-4 years of progressively responsible experience in human services project management
  • Documented experience as a trainee or employee of a LEND, DBP, or UCEDD program or similar experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families
  • A Master's level degree in human services, clinical, disability, public health, or a related field

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience providing training or technical assistance in maternal child health or disability field
  • Knowledge of federal grant application, reporting, and evaluation processes
