AUCD signed onto a Letter from the Friends of HRSA to House Leaders Urging Support for Discretionary Programs
AUCD signed onto a letter from the Friends of HRSA and the American Public Health Association urging lawmakers to support an original FY 2017 request of $7.48 billion for discretionary HRSA programs in the final FY 2017 spending agreement. The letter was sent to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the House Appropriations Committee and the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies. The signatories to the letter requested that the committee members restore funding to HRSA programs that were made in earlier bills this year and urged lawmakers not to add any harmful policy riders.

AUCD signed a letter from the Friends of NICHD urging members of Congress to ensure that any supplemental emergency funding bill includes appropriations that will allow the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) to pursue research into pregnancy and Zika-related birth outcomes.

AUCD's IDDRCs Support Letter in Favor of Zika Funding
In a letter addressed to members of the House of Representatives, AUCD's Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Centers (IDDRC) urged lawmakers to secure the greatest possible level of emergency supplemental funding to combat the Zika virus, with a particular focus on bolstering research funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD).

AUCD signed onto a letter urging members of Congress to oppose any balanced budget amendment to the United States Constitution. Such an amendment would require massive cuts be made to ensure that the budget remained balanced, and would permanently slash funding for a massive array of initiatives that affect all Americans, including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SSDI, veterans' benefits, scientific research, and public education. The letter, which was originally drafted in 2011, has been signed by 281 organizations amid increased support for a balanced budget amendment among Senate Republicans and in state legislatures.
