AUCD Comments on Proposed Rule to Ban Electrical Stimulation Devices (ESD)
AUCD submitted comments to the FDA on the proposed Rule to ban electrical stimulation devices (ESD) that are used to treat self-injurious or aggressive behavior. Research on aversive stimuli does not support the argument that the use of ESDs is either therapeutic or humane, and AUCD fully supports the FDA proposed Rule to ban them.

Alliance to Prevent Restraint, Aversive Intervention, and Seclusion Urges FDA to Ban Electric Shock
AUCD signed on to this letter from the Alliance to Prevent Restraint, Aversive Intervention, and Seclusion (APRAIS) responding to a Food and Drug Administration request for comments regarding the use of electric shock devices for behavioral modification. The coalition urged the FDA to ban the use of these devices.

On Wednesday, May 9th, Representative George Miller (D-CA) gave a speech in the House of Representatives urging Congress to pass the Keeping All Students Safe Act. AUCD sent this letter thanking him for his continued efforts to limit restraint and seclusion in schools.

AUCD signed on to these three letters regarding the Preventing Harmful Restraint and Seclusion in Schools Act (HR 4247). The letters respond to arguments opposing the legislation and urge for the inclusion of the Senate bill's (S. 2860) requirement that schools have a debriefing session with parents after restraint or seclusion is implemented.

AUCD helped draft a letter to Rep. George Miller (D-CA), thanking him for introducing legislation to restrict the use of restraint and seclusion in schools. Identical letters were sent to Rep. Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (R-WA), who cosponsored the bill, and Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-CT), who introduced a similar bill in the Senate.
