This summer Dr. Laura Stough was awarded the Knowledge Award for Excellence in Education or Research from the Texas Chapter of the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. It was awarded for significant contributions to the dissemination of knowledge in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities through education and/or research.

PATHS Program Begins their First Semester and First Day of Class as a 2-year Certificate Program

The two-year PATHS certificate program prepares graduates for employment in a career serving people with disabilities or working with children. Students have begun their first year and are excited to get started. After spending a few weeks this summer living in dorms on campus and learning how to navigate the buses and getting around on campus. This semester they are living in housing off campus and taking classes.

TTAP Battles Social Isolation with Connectivity Kits

In light of the pandemic and increased isolation in our communities, the Aging and Disability Resources Center of the Capital Area (ADRC) and the Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) has partnered with the Texas Technology Access Program (TTAP) to create Connectivity Kits to help reduce social isolation by increasing connectivity for older persons, persons with disabilities, and their caregivers.

Request for Application: Regional Hub for Local Vaccine Outreach

Through an upcoming single-source award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), a selection of up to four (4) centers or programs from the AUCD network members will lead regional hubs to coordinate local and regional COVID-19 vaccine outreach with the disability community as part of a larger effort, Local Vaccine Outreach with the Disability Community. Successful applicants will propose innovative strategies to rapidly share effective message delivery streams and local modalities to reach people with disabilities (including individuals not connected to service delivery systems), their families, and Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), with the overarching goal of boosting COVID-19 vaccination rates in the disability community.

Connectivity Kits at Texas Center for Disability Studies

The Texas Technology Access Program, within the Texas Center for Disability Studies at the University of Texas at Austin collaborated with the local Aging and Disability Resource Center (Capital Area Council of Governments) to assemble connectivity kits for persons with disabilities, older adults, and their caregivers. The intent is to reduce isolation while connecting people to their community and to telemedicine.

Dr. Emily Graybill becomes new Director of Georgia UCEDD, Center for Leadership in Disability

Emily Graybill, PhD, has been a faculty member at the Center for Leadership in Disability (CLD) at Georgia State University (GSU) since 2011. During that time, she has led impactful work that has strengthened Georgia's systems of care for children, adults, and families living with disabilities. Dr. Graybill transitioned into the role of Director on June 1st of this year following the retirement of CLD's founding Director.

Meet Members of Georgetown University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council

The Georgetown University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (GUCEDD) is highlighting members of its Advisory Council (GAC) through a series of videos. The three newest members to participate are Wilma Elen, a parent of a person with an intellectual/developmental disability (IDD); Rebecca Salon an advisor to Project ACTION! and a representative from the State Office on Policy, Planning, and Innovation for the District of Columbia's Department on Disability Services; and Robert Kennedy, a member of Project ACTION!, an advocate, and a person with the lived experience of developmental disability.

MI-DDI and FEMA Flood Disaster Speakers Panel

Michigan Developmental Disabilities Institute (MI-DDI) joined the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to host a webinar featuring several speakers from FEMA on August 25, 2021. The session focused on resources and aid available to Michiganders affected by the severe storms and floods of June 2021. The Ohio State University Nisonger Center Next Chapter Book Club Updates

Each of the 11 Next Chapter Book Clubs in central Ohio, which had been meeting virtually for the past year, voted in July to either return to in-person meetings, remain virtual, or create a hybrid schedule. Seven clubs eagerly chose to begin meeting in-person again, and members and facilitators in these clubs have been greatly enjoying the chance to be together.

Vanderbilt Kennedy Center UCEDD Co-director Aims to Expand Inclusive Higher Education in the U.S. Through Accreditation Committee Work

Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN IDDRC, UEDD, LEND) UCEDD co-director Elise McMillan, J.D., recently served on a national workgroup of experts to develop model program accreditation standards for inclusive higher education (IHE) programs for students with intellectual disabilities. The 2021 Think College! National Coordinating Center Accreditation Workgroup wrapped up its work with the recent release of its latest five-year report.
