Parent Navigator Team's COVID-19 Response at the USC UCEDD
The Parent Navigator (PN) Project provides three full-time Parent Navigators, who are parents of individuals with developmental disabilities themselves and have extensive experience in system navigation, to assist families with linkage to Early Intervention Services, the CA Regional Centers, and other appropriate community resources.

AUCD2021 - Submit Your Proposal Today!
NEW Deadline: Friday, June 11th
AUCD has made the decision to conduct the 2021 Conference as a fully virtual event. With the theme of "Learning Together: Connecting Research and Lived Experience," AUCD2021 will continue to serve as a forum for meaningful collaborations around important topics, best practices, and issues that affect the disability community, our network, and beyond. AUCD is also excited to continue 50th anniversary celebrations during the virtual conference. The 2021 AUCD Conference will take place online November 15-17 and more details on exact times and other potential events will be shared going into the summer. Submissions are now closed.

New RTC Rural Research Brief: COVID-19 vaccination among disabled people
RTC:Rural's newest fact sheet explores how people with disabilities are experiencing COVID-19 vaccination efforts in the United States. Addressing this knowledge gap is critical to ensuring that people with disabilities are considered as vaccination efforts progress during the ongoing pandemic and future health crises.

RETAIN Kentucky Receives Grant to Expand Services
The UK Human Development Institute will collaborate with the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation to implement the $21.6 million RETAIN Kentucky award from the US Department of Labor to deliver return-to-work/stay-at-work services through strategic partnerships, early intervention strategies, and innovative support services for people who have acquired an injury or illness outside of the workplace that makes it difficult to work.

Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) Launches COVID-19 Vaccine Confidence Initiative to #VaccinateByADA
Just in time for Mother's Day, the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) is launching a new public health initiative, COVID-19 Vaccine Access and Confidence for People with Disabilities, engaging 23-AUCD network centers strategically located across the country to reach local disability communities, reduce access barriers, and promote vaccine confidence. The goal is to vaccinate all eligible people with disabilities by the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26th.

HDI Collaborates on NIH Research Education Program Grant
The UK Human Development Institute in collaboration with the UK College of Engineering and the UK College of Medicine Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine have received a National Institutes of Health R-25 Research Education Program grant: Team-Based Design of Assistive Technology Devices. This program invites students to apply for an opportunity to complete courses in engineering and universal design, participate in a clinical immersion experience at Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, and gain practical skills and knowledge by working with people with disabilities who use assistive technology devices.

Koeller Named WKU Child Studies 2021 Alumnus of the Year
Stephanie Koeller, a Professional Development Coach at Child Care Aware of Kentucky / University of Kentucky Human Development Institute has been named WKU Child Studies 2021 Alumnus of the Year. Stephanie has been a great leader and advocate for children during her more than two decades of service in the early childhood community.

Public Health Learning Agenda Toolkit: Apply to be a Pilot Tester!
The Public Health Learning Network is recruiting 20 pilot testers (individuals or teams) from around the country to better understand how the Public Health Learning Agenda Toolkit can be used to strengthen learning for systems change. Each individual or team will be asked to complete the activities listed below, and will receive a $1500 stipend for their effort.

Putting Faith to Work Highlighted on Disability Podcast
Putting Faith to Work (PFTW), an employment model created by four UCEDDS (TN, MN, KY, TX), was featured on a recent episode of the podcast Navigating Life as We Know It. Developed in 2014 through a Signature Employment Grant awarded by the Kessler Foundation, the PFTW model focuses on building the capacity of faith communities to support employment for members with disabilities.

Request for Proposals: UCEDD Leadership Development
Deadline to submit a proposal: May 26, 2021.
The UCEDD Resource Center (URC) is seeking consultation to develop a UCEDD Network Leadership Development Map ("Map") and TA plan. The Map will provide UCEDD network members with concrete information about the knowledge, skills, and abilities that they need to advance their careers within the UCEDD network and about existing strategies, resources, and opportunities to acquire those knowledge, skills, and abilities. The TA plan will identify gaps in the UCEDD network career pathways and provide the URC with recommended activities to address those gaps. Both documents will specifically attend to the unique needs of the network and network members to enhance career opportunities for individuals from historically underrepresented communities.

Supporting Families in Crisis
Recently I read a blog that shared how families that have a loved one with a disability are just waiting for the next battle to happen. That life seems to be going well and then the rain begins and the storm moves in. This blog written by the mother of a child with a developmental disability resonated with me. Even in the good times, it seems like that storm or battle could come at any time. It swoops in and changes our perspective and our priorities. At that moment, nothing else matters except winning that battle and coming out on the other side of the storm.
