2020 Autism Acceptance Month Webinar Series

AUCD's Autism Special Interest Group (SIG) is sponsoring a series of four webinars for Autism Acceptance Month. Topics will range from parent training to reducing disparities to treating mental health issues in people with ASD. We will also sponsor a special webinar aimed at the engagement of autism stakeholders in research and service initiatives.

Congress and the administration are responding to the COVID-19 crisis in a variety of ways. It is important in the fast-moving decision process that the various relief and safety efforts meet the needs of people with disabilities. The latest congressional COVID-19 response addressed many of those needs, but more work is needed! Staff need to continue to hear from YOU! UD Get's $1 Million Grant for Special Education Training (DE UCEDD)

The Center for Disabilities Studies, in partnership with other education centers at the University of Delaware and the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE), is offering the state's first special education-specific leadership training program. Called the Special Education Administrative Leadership (SEAL) program, it is supported by a five-year, $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Applications became available in January, and the training sessions will launch in August.

ArtWorks is an outreach program housed in the Sonoran UCEDD at the University of Arizona, Department of Family & Community Medicine. ArtWorks promotes community and mutual learning through creative and expressive arts interactions between adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and University of Arizona students.

Leadership in the Arts at the Institute on Disabilities, Temple University

Since 2011, the Institute on Disabilities has engaged in a creative exploration of the arts as an extension of its advocacy with and for people with disabilities. The Institute's Media Arts & Culture (MAC) programs address persistent questions in the disability community and make use of art's power as a connector across systems. Our MAC programming includes archival preservation; public performance; support for emerging artists with disabilities; and partnerships with local, national and international cultural organizations to ensure inclusive and accessible practices.

The National Arts and Disability Center at the Tarjan Center at UCLA

Established in 1994, The National Arts and Disability Center focuses on fostering connections between the diverse voices and vision of artists with disabilities and the cultural arts community. The mission of the NADC is to promote the inclusion of audiences and artists with disabilities into all facets of the arts community. The Program on Disability Art, Culture, and Humanities at UIC's Department of Disability and Human Development

"Feet, what do I need you for when I have wings to fly?" --Frida Kahlo. In 2009, Associate Professor Carrie Sandahl founded the Program on Disability Art, Culture, and Humanities (PDACH) at UIC's Department of Disability and Human Development (DHD). PDACH is a creative research lab for faculty and students to study, support, and create art and culture that explores the disability experience.

Jennifer Rabalais Awarded Scholarship from CVS Health Foundation

Jennifer Rabalais, Co-Director of the Center on Aging and Community Living (CACL) was awarded a scholarship from the CVS Health Foundation to attend the 2020 American Society on Aging (ASA) Leadership Institute in Atlanta, Georgia. She received this honor for her regional and national leadership in the aging arena.

Update from AUCD

Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) staff has been actively monitoring and taking the necessary steps to prepare for the continuity of operations as the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak continues to develop. Over the past two weeks we have escalated our precautionary measures by transitioning to remote in-person meetings, suspending non-essential travel, and encouraging staff to work from home. Today, we have decided to take additional action to further reduce risk and will be closing AUCD's Silver Spring office, effective Monday, March 16th.

AUCD Policy Forum and Disability Policy Seminar Canceled

We have made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the AUCD Policy Forum and Disability Policy Seminar. We will not be hosting any in-person activities at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. If you have not already cancelled your travel arrangements, please do so unless you are intending to be in DC for other reasons.
