Fact Sheets Created From Disabled Parenting Project (OH UCEDD/LEND)
These fact sheets were created as part of our Cincinnati LEND Seminars in Evidence-Based Medicine project. A team of LEND trainees and faculty members conducted research on best practices while also consulting with stakeholders, including women with disabilities who have experienced pregnancy and prenatal care as well as medical providers.

Working to Improve the Patient Experience (AL LEND)
Each year, LEND Trainees at the Civitan-Sparks Clinics in Birmingham, Alabama develop a project that will aid in improving the experience of our patients. As an interdisciplinary clinic, families who come into the Civitan-Sparks Clinics see a wide variety of professionals, including Speech/Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition, Pediatrics, Audiology, Psychology, and Dental. As such, many parents are unsure of what to expect from a visit with each of these disciplines, particularly when they are new to our clinic. Additionally, while the range of areas of concerns that families come in with is broad, visits to each of our disciplines are largely the same clinic to clinic.

The Center for Diversity in Public Health Leadership Training at Kennedy Krieger Institute provides innovative and real-world experiential learning for diverse undergraduate, post-baccalaureate and graduate school scholars interested in maternal and child, public health, and eliminating health disparities.

VT LEND provides distance accessibility program to Self-Advocate trainees and others
Vermont Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (VT LEND) is a distance accessible program meaning all participants, regardless of where they live, are able to participate in all program components. (http://www.med.uvm.edu/vtlend/home) This effort began with our need to train individuals living in rural parts of Vermont who could not participate when we required in person presence. In 2016 when our collaboration with the US Virgin Islands (USVI) began to provide LEND training to individuals there, we solidified our commitment to having a distance accessible program.

Child Neurology Society Honors Kennedy Krieger Institute Pediatrician for Excellence in Physician Training (MD LEND)
At its recent annual meeting in Chicago, the Child Neurology Society presented Bruce K. Shapiro, MD, vice president, training at Kennedy Krieger Institute, with the Blue Bird Circle Training Director Award. Launched in 2013, the Blue Bird Circle Training Director Award is presented to a current or former child neurology residency program director who has demonstrated leadership and vision in program development, curriculum development, innovation in teaching methods or training requirements and who inspires trainees and colleagues alike in the practice of child neurology.

2019 EHDI Meeting Scholarships for LEND Audiology Trainees
Application deadline: January 22, 2019.
AUCD has made available seven (7) scholarships of up to $500 each to support LEND audiology trainees in attending the in Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Meeting on March 3-5, 2019 in Chicago, IL. All current LEND audiology trainees, including those in their externship year, are eligible to apply. However, priority will be given to trainees from programs that do not currently receive supplemental funding and trainees that have not attended the EHDI Meeting in previous years. Application deadline: January 20, 2019.

The Maine LEND Showcases Interprofessional Initiatives
The Maine LEND Program leaders and trainees recently displayed their contributions to interprofessional service and education at the inaugural Interprofessional Showcase at the University of New England (UNE). One of the strengths of UNE is training students in the health and service professions to work collaboratively for better outcomes for clients in the community.

AUCD Welcomes our Two New Emerging Leader Interns!
The two new Emerging Leaders Interns (formerly the Virtual Trainees), Shayla and Nell, joined the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) team in September 2018! The two interns work together to passionately represent the AUCD Emerging Leaders Community. They will work together to build and enhance the community by being connection points between the national network and each Program/Center by ensuring Emerging Leaders receive information and opportunities related to leadership, research, fellowships, and more.

Maximizing Leadership Potential in Racial and Ethnic Minority LEND Trainees
The LEND programs of the PacWest region have worked together and consistently sought ways to strengthen interdisciplinary leadership training and achieve a diverse MCH workforce over the past four years. We began the process by identifying barriers and gaps in supporting and mentoring racially and ethnically diverse LEND trainees.

Va-LEND Welcomes New FME Coordinator
Kathryn "Kate" Flinn is the new Family Mentorship Experience Coordinator (FME) at Va-LEND. Although she became the new FME Coordinator this past July, Kate's connection with Va-LEND began four years ago. According to Kate, in September of 2014 she worked with Va-LEND Trainees on an autism fitness program where she coordinated at the YMCA in Richmond, for teens with Asperger's/High Functioning Autism. Kate has a son who is on the Autism Disability Spectrum (ASD).
