Sheryl Lazarus (MN UCEDD) Testifies Before U.S. Helsinki Commission
Sheryl Lazarus of the Institute on Community Integration (MN UCEDD) testified in Washington, DC before the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, also known as the U.S. Helsinki Commission, at a briefing titled, "A Truly Inclusive Society: Encouraging the Ability in Disability." Lazarus, director of the TIES Center, was part of a panel of speakers exploring best practices developed federally and locally in the U.S. to empower and integrate individuals with intellectual disabilities, and the legal changes that will enable individuals with intellectual disabilities to reach their full potential.

US State Department, National Committee on United States-China Relations Professional Fellows Program (MA UCEDD/LEND)
The Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI) participated in the Professional Fellows Program (PFP) sponsored by the US State Department through the National Committee on United States-China Relations this spring. The PFP is a two-way exchange for emerging leaders in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the U.S. in the fields of environment, philanthropy, legal aid, and community building among marginalized populations. In April, the ICI hosted Di Wu in a 4-week fellowship. Wu runs a social enterprise in China called Easy Inclusion, which promotes disability inclusion and diversity in businesses through training and consultancy. This August, Dr. Sheila Fesko, the assistant dean for the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development (SGISD) and a program manager at the ICI, participated in the reciprocal part of the program, traveling to China to work with Wu on her project and with representatives from other disability organizations in Beijing.

MN UCEDD Supports Social Inclusion of Young Russians with Disabilities
Brian Abery and Ren�ta Tich� (shown in Moscow) from the Global Resource Center on Inclusive Education (GRC) at the Institute on Community Integration (MN UCEDD) are leading a new project known as Community Participation and Employment as Strategies for Social Inclusion: A U.S.-Russian Dialogue. The project aims to enhance the social inclusion of youth and young adults with disabilities by developing community living and supported employment programs in the Moscow area.

Article published by international fellow hosted by VT UCEDD
After spending five weeks in the US in an intensive fellowship program for inclusive disability employment, Victoria Lihiru returned home to Tanzania ready to make changes. She recently published an article in The Guardian newspaper in Tanzania, reflecting on her fellowship experiences and progress needed for people with disabilities. Her article is titled "Disability inclusive employment: My two cents from Green Mountain state" and can be read online: https://www.ippmedia.com/en/features/abilityinclusive-employment-my-two-cents-green-mountain-stat This article followed her participation in the Professional Fellows Program for Inclusive Disability Employment. This fellowship program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, and administered by AUCD in partnership with the Institute for Community Inclusion at the University of Massachusetts Boston and Humanity and Inclusion.

The Crip, the Fat and the Ugly in an Age of Austerity: Resistance, Reclamation, and Affirmation Forum
A special June 2018 forum entitled �The Crip, The Fat and The Ugly in an Age of Austerity: Resistance, Reclamation, and Affirmation has been published in the Review of Disability Studies (RDS) Journal. The forum includes a series of articles exploring the processes and politics of austerity upon diverse and marginalized embodiments-how capitalism makes sense of and shapes body-minds; the ways in which austerity both marks and produces bodies and selves, and the means through which these are further shaped by disability, race, class, gender, age, size, sexuality, and nation. Articles for this forum were compiled by RDS Guest Editors, Dr. Jen Slater of Sheffield Hallam University and Dr. Kirsty Liddiard of The University of Sheffield (United Kingdom).

International Fellowship Host Application Open
AUCD is actively seeking Fall 2018 hosts for the International Professional Fellows Program for Inclusive Disability Employment (PFP-IDE). PFP-IDE is a U.S. Department of State-sponsored professional exchange program that will enable inclusive employment advocates from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to study best practices in the U.S. and develop partnerships with AUCD network members. Professional Fellows will learn about inclusive employment at AUCD member host sites, contribute to centers' projects and activities, and develop an inclusive employment project that they will implement in their home countries.

Professional Fellows Program for Inclusive Disability Employment
The deadline for host applications is January 12.
AUCD is excited to announce that the host application for the International Professional Fellows Program for Inclusive Disability Employment (PFP-IDE) is now open. PFP-IDE is a new U.S. Department of State professional exchange program that will enable 20 emerging leaders in inclusive employment from Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to participate in a five-week Fellowship in the U.S. where they will learn about disability rights and inclusive employment.

Research Connections in Japan (MT UCEDD)
Dr. Sumi Kato, a Professor from Aomori Chuo Gakuin University and the Research Center for Child Mental Development at the Hirosaki University School of Medicine, visited the Montana and Idaho UCEDDs in September. She is seeking U.S. research partnerships to investigate the similarities and differences of linguistic behavior in autistic children and adults.

Call for Proposal - Dismantling Ableism: The Moral Imperative for Leaders - Volume 14 Issue 3
How do we prepare leaders to address both institutional ableism and racism in systems such as discipline and disability classification? How do educational leaders take on activist roles for inclusion and social justice? What does the future of leadership look like when exploring issues through an intersectionality lens? What do other professional university preparation programs, such as Health, Policy, Human Services do to cultivate the moral and ethical leadership necessary to change existing systems?

Spring 2017 ADA International Fellowship Hosts Selected for International Inclusive Education Travel
AUCD is excited to announce that four network members have been selected to travel to Kenya, Tanzania and Brazil through the ADA International Fellowship Program, an inclusive education professional exchange initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and administered by AUCD and ICI-UMass Boston. Dr. Martin Blair, Director of the Montana UCEDD, Dr. Wendy Parent-Johnson, Director of the South Dakota UCEDD, Dr. Evan Borisinkoff, Director for Research and Evaluation at the North Dakota UCEDD, and Amy Starble, Augmentative Communication Consultant at the Vermont UCEDD, will support local ADA International Fellows who studied inclusive education at their UCEDDs in April and May as they implement projects designed with their guidance earlier this year.
