2016-17 MNLEND Fellow Publishes!

Jack Reagan, current 2016-17 MNLEND Fellow recently co-published a brief based on the FINDS 2010 data surveying family caregivers. The data he analyzed within the FINDS survey focused on the emotional and physical markers affecting family caregivers. These markers have both positive and negative association to their related outcomes for family caregivers.

MNLEND Alumna Publishes!

Last year, I was very fortunate to be a LEND Fellow at the University of Minnesota. I applied because I was embarking on my PhD dissertation in nursing and wanted to explore the experience of families of children who lived with severe autism. The LEND experience not only provided an in-depth education in neurodevelopmental disorders, but also the LEND staff helped me access families who would ultimately participate in my research. This research ultimately changed the way I understand families who live with a severe chronic condition such as severe autism.

Talk with Pediatric Dental Students (NY UCEDD/LEND)

Lisa Latten, Family Advocacy Fellow at SCDD/LEND in Rochester NY recently spoke to Pediatric Dental students at University of Rochester Eastman Dental Center about the importance of including families in treatment plans. Lisa is the parent of a child with autism, and a Family Navigator at the Kirch Developmental Center at SCDD.

2017 Trainee Liaisons

AUCD Trainee liaisons are volunteer trainees at LENDs, UCEDDs, and DBP programs who identify strategies to improve trainee networking and linkage within the AUCD network, and improve the exchange of information among trainees across the network using available technologies. AUCD Welcomes Sheida Khamsi (KS UCEDD) as the 2017 Assistant Virtual Trainee

Sheida Khamsi is the Spring 2017 Assistant Virtual Trainee. She is also a UCEDD trainee at the Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities at the University of Kansas. Within AUCD, Sheida's role is to work with the Virtual Trainee to enhance diversity within the AUCD network and generate and implement new ideas for effective communication and connection between all Centers and Programs.

2017 EHDI Meeting Scholarships for LEND Audiology Trainees

AUCD has made available six (6) scholarships of up to $500 each to support LEND audiology trainees in attending the in Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Meeting on February 26-28, 2017 in Atlanta, GA. All current LEND audiology trainees are eligible to apply. However, priority will be given to trainees from programs that do not currently receive supplemental funding and trainees that have not attended the EHDI Meeting in previous years. Application deadline: January 29, 2017.

AUCD Welcomes 2017 Board of Directors

AUCD is governed by an elected Board of Directors that includes professionals, individuals with disabilities, and family members. On December 7, 2016, we thanked outgoing Board members for their dedicated service and welcomed the members of the 2017 AUCD Board of Directors.
